Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts potential renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2010-11 season in May, 2011. (includes results through November 28, 2010):

Program Status Renew/ Cancel Index
Life Unexpected 😳 0.67
90210 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 0.90
One Tree Hill 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 0.92
Hellcats 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 0.92
Gossip Girl 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 0.94
Supernatural (F)     1.01
Nikita 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 1.02
Smallville (F) final season 1.11
Vampire Diaries      1.52

With Life Unexpected certain to be cancelled, Smallville in its final season, and the rest of the CW shows (except for Vampire Diaries) so tightly packed in the adults 18-49 ratings as to make the entire herd more likely to be renewed than cancelled, I thought we’d run a poll this week (also because the CW aired no new scripted episodes last week, this week’s list is identical to last weeks).

While every network has some fans of one show wishing ill of one or more of its other shows, our commenters often make it seem like the CW has a surplus of such fans, so this is for all of them.

With 90210, One Tree Hill, Hellcats, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, and Nikita all more likely to be renewed than cancelled, if you were shepherd of the CW herd, which would you cancel?

Either for ratings, spite, or any other reason your shepherdly heart desires. The flock awaits your decision.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

How would the Renew / Cancel Index Have Done Predicting Last Season’s Scripted Show Fates? While the methods used have changed slightly from past seasons check out how the Renew / Cancel Index would have predicted renewals and cancellations from the 2009-10 broadcast television season.
