Fox’s semi-anonymous scheduling executive tweeted that in the Live+3 days DVR program ratings Fringe surged 42% with adults 18-49,  from a 1.9 Live+SD adults 18-49 rating to a 2.7 rating.

Beyond PR it is interesting to the extent that it does show that the Friday premiere got a decent sampling with adults 18-49 on Friday.  That is good news, however, it doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know (i.e., we knew Fox would be content with the 1.9 Live+SD rating).

Nervous fans should continue to focus on the Live+SD numbers.  They will tell you what you need to know as far as renewal prospects and they arrive sooner.  Getting worked into a lather about the DVR bounce is fine, but it really only matters to the extent Fringe holds its Live+SD numbers.

If Fringe’s Live+SD sticks around where it is, there isn’t anything to worry about.  On the other hand, if it dropped to a 1.3 Live+SD adults 18-49 rating DVR isn’t going to make that up, i.e., the Live+3 DVR numbers aren’t going to add an additional 1.5 in the ratings.

DVR wise, this bounce isn’t actually any different than what happened when Fringe was on Thursdays.  Especially considering “seasons pass” DVR functionality (my DVR automatically recoreded Fringe without me needing to change anything), that’s not surprising.

More surprising was that the Live+SD rating held up so well on a Friday.
