“It’s what we do, you know?”  Jay Leno said with regards to all the jokes at his expense in the recent late night wars,  according to a brief transcript released Wednesday by Oprah Winfrey’s  production company, Harpo.

“It’s like being a fighter and say when you got punched in the head, did it hurt? Well, yeah. But you’re a fighter. That’s what you do.”

On the topic of whether he’d spoken to Conan about the events,  Leno said, “It didn’t seem appropriate [to phone him to speak with him about it]. “Let things cool down and maybe we’ll talk,”  Leno said.

The interview, taped in Leno’s Burbank studio airs on Oprah’s Thursday, January 28 show.

In the preview video on YouTube (Oprah doesn’t believe in allowing video embeds, you’ll have to click over, sorry)  Oprah asks Jay if he ever thought he was taking away Conan’s dream.
