EW reported yesterday that South Park would return for the second half of its 15th season on Wednesday, October 5 and that South Park had been renewed for a 16th and 17th season taking it through 2013.

I got a few e-mails asking why I hadn’t posted this news — it’s because I thought it was old news that EW was reiterating, but that’s apparently not the case, so here it is. Comedy Central hasn’t sent a release out about this specifically, though it did slip the October 5 fall premiere date info into a press release yesterday about the second season premiere of Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time.

Despite comments from South Park’s creators, its renewal never seemed in doubt and nobody should be too surprised if it’s renewed three more seasons after this renewal to get it to 20 seasons. Other than Tosh.0, it’s Comedy Central’s best performing show.
