Woeful ratings have claimed the season's first new broadcast show casualty, as Fox announced that Nashville would be replaced by repeats of K-ville. Fox eliminates a loser and bolsters K-ville's weekly ratings using a new ratings trick.

I don’t think the K-Ville repeat will use the same advertisements as the week’s earlier broadcast, so they would not benefit from the new Nielsen ratings rule.

Alex, you may very well be correct, we’ll have to see what they do. My guess is with NBC doing it with Heroes, Fox may give it a try.

For everyone else, the “ratings trick” I referred to was that Nielsen has decided, beginning this season, if a show is aired twice in the same broadcast week Mon-Sun, and carries *exactly* the same commercials not only is the audience of the repeat added to the original broadcast’s audience for tracking purposes, but the repeat’s audience *doesn’t* count for the nightly average on the night it airs.

That leads to a big advantage for shows that air early in the week and then have repeats airing Saturday, the lowest traffic night, or Friday, the second lowest.
