Beggars can't be choosers as NHL Net accepts carriage on sports tiers
The NHL Network has signed carriage deals with Comcast, DirecTV, EchoStar, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Cablevision to begin operation this month.
The difference between the NHL Network deal and the one that the NFL Network is demanding with the Cable MSOs, is that the NHL Network will be carried on a special sports tier, that subscribers will have to pay extra for. That will limit their potential audience.
Evidently, being the 4th major sport allows the NHL to take a more humble attitude to business negotiations, seeking agreement between both the buyer and seller instead of simply naming terms and seeking redress in the courts if they're not met.
Think the NFL Network might learn something?
Nope, me either.
