I was so very disappointed when I found out CBS wouldn’t be getting us a second season. I simply cannot believe this kind of stupidity! I do hope so very very much another company will pick up where this stupid CBS left of. If I could tune in on CBS I never ever would do it again! Let’s hope we get another season (or three or four….) of Moonlight.

It makes zero sense to cancel it, plus, this is the Year of the Vampire. Twilight, Dark Shadows remake, True Blood, among others are going to be HUGE. In the words of Matt Roush from TV Guide, “CBS blew it.”

MichaelC2B expressed exactly how I feel, how we all feel as viewers (let alone as fanbase members), when he says “Put a fabulous show on, get the viewers addicted and let them fall in love with it, then riiiip it off the air. Oh, that is the way to keep iewers.” Now I understand that non-cable networks don’t regard viewers as their customers, because we don’t directly give them money: advertisers do. Still, as viewers we are their resource, and as members of a fanbase, that is, as individuals actively engaged in promoting one of “their” shows, hence the network itself, we SHOULD be perceived as an even greater resource, and receive gratitude and
enthusiasm. Yet right now, we feel used. In fact I feel far worse than used, I feel HUMILIATED. I’d love to feel used: I’d love to see a network actively engaging with us as a community that has something of value to offer it, as opposed to being perceived as some pack of irritating Chihuahuas. Moonlight “fans” (nor any other fanbase for that matter) are not some bunch of crazed weirdos who have nothing better to do with their lives than swoon over celebrities, as the media often like to portray us. We are people who have enough respect for television as an art form to refuse to give up on it. And right now we feel, we have far more respect for television than most networks do. You would be surprised how many of the people belonging to the Moonlight fanbase are teachers, artists, scientists (like myself), engineers, psychologists, etc… We would gladly organise ourselves into an “army” of volunteers for the sake of actively
promoting the network and all its shows, in order to help it increase its stable viewership.
This would be very easy to organise. We know ourselves, we know how we could achieve this in a simple and efficient manner, if a network only accepted to view us differently and work with us in partnership on such a project (offer that stands to any company willing to sponsor the show, too). A strong fanbase may not translate directly into orbital ratings, but it undoubtedly remains a clue that it could with proper promotional efforts on the network’s part, AND a fanbase constitutes an international, online community of several thousand highly motivated individuals, which in these times of viewer defection to the net should surely be perceived as a precious resource.
Before the cancellation, we spent months begging the network that then hosted the show for promotional material. Nothing extraordinary, nothing vastly “outside the box”, just T-shirts, caps and the like, that we could wear at large gatherings, at the mall, school, campus, etc… and turn ourselves into free walking billboards in the interest of the network itself. And billboards with a different appeal to the masses than other methods of promotion, precisely because it comes from viewers. We weren’t even granted that. Sure, we can always make our own, which we have now resorted to doing. But pictures from the show can’t be used because of copyright, so needless to say that limits the attractiveness of the material that we can come up with.
We can only hope that some network out there will not be so quick in passing the opportunity that a community like this one represents.

Sorry I was slow in responding, but I got involved in discussing the replacement for Moonlight at another spot on this website.

With the reading I have done, I am convinced that Moonlight didn’t get a fair shake. I am going to place your info at that other spot on this website later tonight. But I have to go now. It’s Fri nite. I’m going out. If Moonlight were on, I wld record it, as I did most of the time or wld watch it on the internet. But since it isn’t on, I won’t record a d**n thing.

By the measure of adults 18-49 season to date, Moonlight was CBS’s lowest performing scripted show (except for Dexter, which will be sent back to Showtime, never to return).
