Monique, what country are you in? What are the ratings like there? (Do you have a link to show how successful it's been over there?)

Moonlight was aired for the first time in my country (the Netherlands) about 9 weeks ago and it was a HUGE HUGE HUGE succes all over! Trust me, I am not the only big time fan overhere! Every Sunday at 9.30 I am NOT available for anybody (except in case the house is on fire;-)) because I have to get my MickBeth shot :)

I was so very disappointed when I found out CBS wouldn't be getting us a second season. I simply cannot believe this kind of stupidity! I do hope so very very much another company will pick up where this stupid CBS left of. If I could tune in on CBS I never ever would do it again! Let's hope we get another season (or three or four....) of Moonlight.

Every Friday night I am sad all over again that it is gone. I still can't believe that a show that wins the People's Choice Award got cancelled. I keep hoping they will realize what a stupid decision it was to cancel it and bring it back.

It seem over the years almost every show I have truly loved has been canceled. Moonlight just happens to be one of them. I love vampire stuff (and I am a christian) and this one was good with another spin on the all the myths that are out there. I think that was one of the things that made it good too. Bring it back because with the writer's strike it just messed everything up. Give it another chance.

Moonlight was loved by fans who are true romantics at heart. We want romance, but the vampire thing thrown in just amped it up a gazillion. Mick was a superhero and Beth, although gutsy and able to survive on her own most of the time, managed to get herself into some predicaments that only her vampire hero could get her out of. Then the romance sparked. This is the essence of Moonlight. CBS, WB and Joel Silver are all fools for letting this one go.

I didn't watch Moonlight much ( the episodes I did see I liked ) but I am a fan of vampire themed shows ( LOVED Buffy and Angel ) and I have no idea why CBS canceled a show that was bringing in an average of over 7 million viewers on a friday night. Today networks are so numbers hungry that they forget to acknowledge a good fan base instead they took a chance on a new show and it has already done bad in it's season premier. This already happened at FOX with Tru Calling. 'Tru' was an amazing show that had a crap time-slot and they canceled it mid season 2 and the show that replaced it was canceled after 13 episodes. Nothing worthwhile is going to come easy but asking for more then 7 million viewers after 9pm on a friday is pushing it. That's my 2 cents anyway...here's hoping something sticks...I LOVE GHOST WHISPERER so that better not get canceled anytime soon...wink!

I agree with you 100%. And I just can't believe 1 woman was given that much power. She is litterly clueless - how could she screw up something so simple - RENEW MOONLIGHT - it's a no-brainer! No matter what "reason" was given as to why it was cancelled, it is without merit, period. But as the eternal optimist - I'M NOT GIVING UP ON OUR MOONLIGHT. IT WILL BE BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON!

Come on people! Get MOONLIGHT back on the air where it belongs!!!! Ratings, schmatings. It's simple - keep popular shows people LOVE to watch like MOONLIGHT ON THE AIR and keep the yucky, boring, redundant shows (ie. medical, sitcoms ugh!) OFF the air. WHO DOESN'T WANT SOPHIA MYLES, ALEX O'LOUGHLIN, JASON DOHRING AND SHANNYN SOSSAMON ON TELEVISION EVERY WEEK!!!

I agree Bob. It's ridiculous for Nina Tassler to say the show was canceled due to ratings. There are countless factors as to why Moonlight's ratings were just okay, but still respectable. The writer's strike made things wierd, plus there was NO promotion for Moonlight, and it was put in what's known in the industry as the "Death Slot". I think Moonlight more than held its own when everything but the kitchen sink was thrown at it.

It makes zero sense to cancel it, plus, this is the Year of the Vampire. Twilight, Dark Shadows remake, True Blood, among others are going to be HUGE. In the words of Matt Roush from TV Guide, "CBS blew it."

They should bring back Moonlight! In today's busy world very few TV Shows ” touch people” and connect in the way this program has done It appealed to people of all ages. The storyline was great. It was a love story, and a drama with humor. It became an intimate part of my family. A program that we scheduled plans around. We had to be home on Friday night by 9:00 PM to watch. The cast was perfect in their roles. The show offered something unique that you actually became a part of. We purchased every episode from Amazon.com and will purchase the DVD when available. We would follow Moonlight to any station and bring our purchasing power with us. This was a very special show!! The only one I have ever written about, called about, or purchased so that we could watch it anytime

Just so you all know, Moonlight was nominated and WON "Best New Drama" from People's Choice Awards! It was voted on by, none other than us, the viewers! Since CBS is stupid enough to axe a show that was voted #1 by viewers, guess they should understand why all their ratings go down the toilet on Friday nights as well as every other night of the week! CBS, take note......you keep toying with viewers and dropping great shows, you lose those viewers AND their friends! Cable is looking better than ever!

I can’t believe CBS would be so ignorant as to take a great show like Moonlight off the air. This show has a great cast, great design, great story line, great scenery, and Man….. Can Alec kiss Beth!
Moon light sure beats watching those stupid reality shows that CBS has on the air. (What the hell is that all about anyway?) CBS you’re ignorance is showing like a man standing on stage with his fly open. What idiots! I'm so finished with CBS!

diane31, I wholeheartedly agree with you. "We are people who have enough respect
for TV as an art form to refuse to give up on it." The networks don't believe or support
their own shows. And worse, treating us fans like we don't matter and are people
to be lied to-that is shameful behavior. I have participated in Save Our Show campaigns before-Angel and Veronica Mars especially. But this is the last time I will
try. If Moonlight does not survive on another network, I am done with new shows.
And I'm already done with CBS. I've already written to most of the networks to tell them if they need me, I'll be over at TNT and USA, where they actually leave their shows on the air for longer than 16 episodes. If you haven't already, you should send your comment to the so-called 5 major networks. They are losing viewers left and right to cable and still they act like we don't matter. I don't understand it and never will.

I am so sad that Moonlight has been taking off the air. I am the fan of Moonlight from Malaysia and i love Vampire because of Moonlight. I think CBS is making a very big mistake by taking off this series which has so many fans. They will regret for their action one day.

What will it take for networks to realise that having an "army" of thousands of online
individuals eager to promote their shows can be a precious resource for them?

MichaelC2B expressed exactly how I feel, how we all feel as viewers (let alone as fanbase members), when he says "Put a fabulous show on, get the viewers addicted and let them fall in love with it, then riiiip it off the air. Oh, that is the way to keep iewers." Now I understand that non-cable networks don't regard viewers as their customers, because we don't directly give them money: advertisers do. Still, as viewers we are their resource, and as members of a fanbase, that is, as individuals actively engaged in promoting one of "their" shows, hence the network itself, we SHOULD be perceived as an even greater resource, and receive gratitude and
enthusiasm. Yet right now, we feel used. In fact I feel far worse than used, I feel HUMILIATED. I'd love to feel used: I'd love to see a network actively engaging with us as a community that has something of value to offer it, as opposed to being perceived as some pack of irritating Chihuahuas. Moonlight "fans" (nor any other fanbase for that matter) are not some bunch of crazed weirdos who have nothing better to do with their lives than swoon over celebrities, as the media often like to portray us. We are people who have enough respect for television as an art form to refuse to give up on it. And right now we feel, we have far more respect for television than most networks do. You would be surprised how many of the people belonging to the Moonlight fanbase are teachers, artists, scientists (like myself), engineers, psychologists, etc... We would gladly organise ourselves into an "army" of volunteers for the sake of actively
promoting the network and all its shows, in order to help it increase its stable viewership.
This would be very easy to organise. We know ourselves, we know how we could achieve this in a simple and efficient manner, if a network only accepted to view us differently and work with us in partnership on such a project (offer that stands to any company willing to sponsor the show, too). A strong fanbase may not translate directly into orbital ratings, but it undoubtedly remains a clue that it could with proper promotional efforts on the network's part, AND a fanbase constitutes an international, online community of several thousand highly motivated individuals, which in these times of viewer defection to the net should surely be perceived as a precious resource.
Before the cancellation, we spent months begging the network that then hosted the show for promotional material. Nothing extraordinary, nothing vastly "outside the box", just T-shirts, caps and the like, that we could wear at large gatherings, at the mall, school, campus, etc... and turn ourselves into free walking billboards in the interest of the network itself. And billboards with a different appeal to the masses than other methods of promotion, precisely because it comes from viewers. We weren't even granted that. Sure, we can always make our own, which we have now resorted to doing. But pictures from the show can't be used because of copyright, so needless to say that limits the attractiveness of the material that we can come up with.
We can only hope that some network out there will not be so quick in passing the opportunity that a community like this one represents.

Moonlight is a great show with depth!! It has a very good insight on vampires and it seems more believable the way it is written. The characters are terrific and I really hope it gets picked up again by a smarter network since CBS is not so smart. Reality shows have no value at all! It is nice to escape once in a while to a fantasy world that is entertaining, that is what Moonlight was!!!!!!!

Moonlight is the best show that I have ever seen, and CBS made a huge mistake not renewing. I will never watch CBS again, and I will be a loyal, devoted fan & viewer of the new network that WILL pick it up. I just want it to happen, uh - yesterday. Put a fabulous show on, get the viewers addicted and let them fall in love with it, then riiiip it off the air. Oh, that is the way to keep viewers. Moonlight will be back.

aftonstjarnan, thank you for the info on communities to save Moonlight. I agree w/ you that we should all join some of these communities to get our show back

Sorry I was slow in responding, but I got involved in discussing the replacement for Moonlight at another spot on this website.

With the reading I have done, I am convinced that Moonlight didn't get a fair shake. I am going to place your info at that other spot on this website later tonight. But I have to go now. It's Fri nite. I'm going out. If Moonlight were on, I wld record it, as I did most of the time or wld watch it on the internet. But since it isn't on, I won't record a d**n thing.

You people at CBS are unbelievable!! A show such as MOONLIGHT, that everyone loved and waited for each Friday night with undying antisipation, and YOU IDIOTS cancel it. You would rather be showing idiotic reality programs (for persons with no real lives of their own) than an extremely popular program. What is wrong with this picture. Reality SUCKS!!!!! Give us fantasy because real life is too political and too caotic.

CBS bring back two shows...Shark--James Woods and cast work good together and it's a good mystery show. The sleeping with people is what I would take out of the show, but I enjoy watching the characters solve the mystery. Moonlight...it's just fun to watch. ABC I can't believe you are taking off Women's Murder Club. It is a good murder mystery show with a good cast that works well together. They make you sad, laugh, and enjoy trying to solve the mystery while getting to know their characters. Only thing i didn't enjoy about that show was the sleeping together. Angie Harmon's character did not need to sleep with that guy in order to have some romance.

Leigh: the ratings here (and in the overnight and normal weekly posts) are LIVE plus same day DVR usage and not the live plus seven day DVR usage which are posted elsewhere. On average about 50% of the DVR numbers wind up being included in the live plus same day numbers, but the range is pretty wide with some shows like American Idol having 70% of the DVR usage occur the same night the show aired and some scripted dramas having only 25% of the DVR usage occur the same night.

After what's happened with Moonlight and the way CBS jerked the viewers, cast and crew around for 3 months regarding renewal, when it now appears that they had little intention of renewing it and probably just ordered the last 4 episodes to fill out the season, it really is hard to ever want to wade back into a CBS freshman series again. I think the cancellation took many by surprise because of the writer's strike and seeing how both ABC and NBC did renew some fledging freshman series because of it; and then there was Nina Tassler saying how she loved her vampire series and ordering 4 more scripts [these last 4 episodes] back in October when the ratings were about the same as now. Ironically, the ratings bumped up in January and so you would have thought they would have ordered at least a partial second season [12-13 more eps] based on that. CBS wants us to try their new out-of-the-box series, get us hooked, but then doesn't give these shows a chance to find an audience. I seem to recall that over on NBC Fraser didn't do too well its first season and on ABC back in the 1990s Drew Carey's sitcom struggled a bit for two seasons before it took off. And Moonlight was getting all this buzz, pulling in a lot of new fans who posted they normally weren't into vampires but felt this show was more mainstream than the usual genre, but then CBS pulled the plug. And the worst of it is they lied. The ads two weeks prior to the cancellation were, "Only two more Micks," "You'll miss them when they're gone," and a lot of people wondered does that mean cancellation but CBS said no decision had been made. So fans do feel they were lied to and betrayed and why should any of us bother with any new CBS shows again when they're never give a chance. From now on, I'll wait until they're at least sophomore series and the first two season are on DVD before I'll watch a CBS show. I thnk a LOT of fans feel the same way. Will be very interesting now to see if any of them are angry Nielsen viewers. Oh, and BTW, they're were NOTincluding DVR in the Nielsen count for Moonlight because the Overnight ratings were nearly the same as the final count posted in USA Today.

Hope this helps, the more people who want to join the fight the better!! :)

Katie, while we no longer get anything but the top 25 shows in 18-49 adults on a weekly basis, we do still get season to date 18-49 adults numbers.

By the measure of adults 18-49 season to date, Moonlight was CBS's lowest performing scripted show (except for Dexter, which will be sent back to Showtime, never to return).
