Samantha Who? Drops But Still Wins

ABC's Samantha Who? ratings dropped 19% to a Live+SD viewership of 11.69 million and adult 18-49 viewership of 4.89 million for the week of Nov 26 - Dec 2, far below its past numbers, but it still enough to lead all new shows. Read on for the rest of the data.
Bubble width = adults 18-49 viewership
Lot's of new shows are out of the rotation this week, some temporarily, some for good because of the strike.
ABC's Pushing Daisies' ratings were strong, but Big Shots' ratings suffered a unusual down week
NBC's Chuck ratings rose again, and has become its new fall standout. Who was it that said it ought to be cancelled? That guy better go back and look at the data again.
CBS' Cane ratings continue to look weak. At least I'm right some of the time.
I've always thought Fox's Kitchen Nightmares ratings put it in the "win" category and it did not disappoint last week. My hope for Next Great American Band looks misplaced.
CW's Gossip Girl ratings may put it in the "survive" category, particularly if new pilot development is hampered by the strike.
Our chart shows not only the viewership of the top 20 new shows, but also their week to week ratings momentum: shows gaining viewers [momentum > 1] and shows losing viewers [momentum < 1] over their last non-rerun airing. The bubble width is proportional to the 18-49 viewership.

In other words, it's a season with a handful of shows doing mediocrely and all others bombing.
You'd think the networks would re-think their approaches, but judging by Les Moonves' recent comments, it's spin as usual in Hollywoodland.

Pushing Daisies only went up because of a better lead-in than usual. If you look at the half-hour breakdowns it lost it in a hurry.

I really hope GOSSIP GIRL is not cancelled. It's doing good in DVR ratings and is number 1 on itunes. Hopefully some of those viewers will move to watching it live.
In canada, its doing pretty well for coming on at 7 pm and based on the number of people that watch tv in canada. In fact a larger proportioN of canadians are watching GOSSIP GIRL THAN AMERICANS!!!

Pushing Daisies was pushed artificially higher by a bigger lead-in.
The half-hour breakdown showed it lost a lot of it rapidly.
As to Gossip Girl being “#1 on iTunes” or having a high DVR percentage, it's all rather meaningless in view of the paucity of its ratings.
CW needs to perform major surgery, not only on its lineup, but also on its philosophy because their current approach is clearly failing.
