Jericho Nielsen Ratings -- Not So Good

We're still waiting on total viewer information as well as 18-49 demographic viewers, but the season two premiere of Jericho performed very poorly. While we don't have enough data to be absolutely definitive, we have enough where the TVbytheNumbers.com magic 8 ball is saying "all signs point to cancel".

It performed dead last in the 10pm slot in terms of HH ratings in the overnights with a 4.1. A new Boston Legal had a 5.2 and a rerun of Law & Order: SVU had a 6.3 and won the time slot. I'm sure there will be huge talk about DVR numbers, the numbers being off because downloads leaked early, etc, but that's just talk. Jericho has a loyal following, but that loyal following is NOT 10 million strong sadly, or even close.

By way of comparison Jericho made its season one debut on 9/20/2006 with a 7.6 HH rating. The season one finale on 5/9/07 had a 5.2. So a 4.1 really bites (the L&O: SVU rerun outperormed it by more than 50%!)

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that news looks bad. Viewer and 18-49 data are now up: things looked a little better with the viewer and demo info, but still not great.

Jericho is the best show ever, and this happends. This is NOT what Jericho deserves. It needs a better timeslot, and not a friggen LONG break (which happend to jericho twice)that keeps f*****n around with it

I think at this point CBS should hand the reigns over to SCI-FI channel. They would do the show a much better service.

Does anyone know if cable companies can measure what channels their viewers are watching, maybe through DVR/Cable boxes relaying information back to them?

Shaun, yes the cable and satellite companies do get data with their set-top boxes and some of it is for sale. A company named TNS has a business built around this, unfortunately, unlike Nielsen they do not release any of their data freely and we can't afford it.

Let's face it: the fans who sent peanuts in were Jericho's ONLY fans. There's no one else out there watching the show! The fact of the matter is, it's a genre show, and it doesn't have broad appeal. And unfortunately, broadcast network tv is not the place for shows that don't have broad appeal, whether they are good or not.

I agree…lots of people are NOT watching Jericho.

Sure there are other shows with low ratings…but they do so successfully in DVR ratings, itunes, online downloading…that networks know these shows are popular…not so much with Jericho.

Face it, CBS only brought the show back for some “buzz”…which CBS with its procedural shows never gets…but I see that buzz didn't work .

Look at the timeslot Jericho got. Thats where CBS screwed up. But I saw alot of advertizments… Oh, and don't hanbd it over to the sci-fi channel, i don't get that. But I mean, hell there are ALOT more people watching Jericho out there than just the ones who sent nuts. I didn't send nuts (i was, but i had no cash), and what isn't taken into account here is the other channels. CTV and Space are also airing Jericho, and Citytv was last season, i mean, the numbers on those channels aren't taken into account, and Space and CTV have given Jericho a better timeslot. I woudln't be shocked if CTV got more viewers than CBS, mainly because CBS screwed up the timeslot majorly. Also, Jericho was the number 3 show for it's timeslot of tuesday, and better in the important 18-49 range of viewers, ya I love Jericho, I got the first season when it came out, yes I am 14 and still in school, but I am also able to see what is going on here. I hope Jericho isn't tossed, although numbers aren't what they could be, and below any number of the first season, it still has 5 episodes to prove it self, before CBS shows the season finale created, or the series finale that was created… thats right 2 were created… I just hope its the season… and i guess maybe they could leak the series on the net just so we can see LOL. Anyway, bye all

If CBS will give the show a chance… and be content to score the second broadcast on Saturday night, like they are this week… the DVD sales… the rebroadcast on SCI-FI that started this week…the show can still be profitible to them… also the Jericho fans need to prove that they are there and loyal… to the show and its advertisers…

I for one have introduced the show to two new households this season… though like many point out, those people, like me, do not count as Nielson is not our friend… but if networks can give two and three years to crap like Friday Night Lights or Arrested Development, then surely Jericho is worth at least one more FULL SEASON before being given up on…

Or else indeed… sell the rights to SCI-FI for a regular series… or a few “network movies”…

Why does CBS not support the best show on TV? I hope the 7 episodes don't end the series. In order to understand the new shows you had to watch the 1st season. I have been loaning out my DVD's to whoever wanted to watch them. This Neilsen family stuff is garbage- NCIS (#20) was only 6.7 or so! Watch it! Blog it! Spread the word!

I think viewers will pick up more after 3 episodes, cause the 3 that were leaked on the internet, people have seen them. Things will pick up…

Please help get Jericho renewed again. You can do that by emailing CBS at audsvcs@cbs.com after every episode and tell them you watched. This is the only way CBS can count the viewers who are not Nielsen Ratings households.

CBS is also looking at online activity. So while you're waiting for your Season One DVD, you can watch full Jericho episodes online at: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/jericho/video/
