Just noting --because there are some sensitive Jericho fanboys today that *I* didn't post the comment saying FNL and Arrested Development were crap. I haven't ever watched FNL (it's on the 'to do' list) and I liked Arrested Development.

I'm only an idiot for predicting from the very first airing of season 2 that Jericho would be cancelled. :)

So, I was doing a search on Google and came across this Jericho post. I skimmed through the supplementary text, and I read "crap like Friday Night Lights and Arrested Development." I think "that can't be right, no one's that much of an idiot." So I click this link to check the context of the post. Turns out, someone is that much of an idiot.

This is so depressing. As much as I wish another network would pick up Jericho, I think it might just be too expensive. Not that I know much about how these deals work. I wanted Firefly to get picked up by Sci Fi too, and I wanted The Black Donnelly's to get picked up by HBO (yeah, I always seem to fall in love with the Underdog).

I've just never really seen it happen (or has it happened and I just didn't notice?)

Oh Jericho, couldn't you have sucked this season so I didn't care if you were cancelled.

Robert, you seem to be fairly "in-the-know" here. What would it take to get Jericho onto a cable network? We're talking cost (rights transfer, contract transitioning, etc.).

Just wanted to say that I am very impressed with the loyalty viewers seem to have for Jericho.

I am not a watcher (it's not in my wheelhouse), but I am tempted to start (if my DVR can fit it in). I am hoping for all of you Jer fans that it gets renewed. You folks have earned it.

I think the ratings would have stayed up if CBS would pick and day and time for Jericho to run. They have switched the night and time three times now, with large breaks in between. Bouncing it around like that isn't going to keep a show going. You will lose alot of viewers that way. A recipe for success would be to pick a day and time and let it run, no long breaks, a little more promotion, and I think the show would be able to stick it out for the long haul and gain many viewers. It started out with over 12 million. I had to put alot of effort into finding out when it was going to be on again.

i agree with jonah. this show would definitely do better on hbo or even sci fi. for some reason, i think the time slots indicate a lack faith on the part of cbs. when i first saw this show online, and i've watched everything i could, i said this show would do sooo much better on an hbo or showtime.

Jericho Season 1 was excellent and I'm really disappointed by the low ratings. However, after having seen the first 2 episodes of this season, it feels as if they are just thrown together with no budget. This season definitely doesn't feel like the same show to me as the pacing is now 10 times quicker and I feel like the story is being rammed down my throat as opposed to slowly revealed.

A show like Jericho belongs on cable (HBO, SHOW, etc.). I'd rather have it on Sci-Fi than no where, but if for some reason new episodes after these 7 are made by Sci-Fi, then I fear the budget cuts will really start to show.

This is just not right! This is a terrific show that millions watch. Just because your not a Nielson family what you watch does not count? Isn't that the entire reason that the show was returned because many were watching that were not Nielson families? Since when has any network had an fan movement in such a revolt to save a show before. Keep it on! At least it is a program that is requested instead of a new reality show or a new stupid sitcom that will last 3 weeks. The numbers were still ok - considering how many other millions watch that are NOT COUNTED like our family and friends that are watching every single week without merit.

PEOPLE REPLY TO THIS COMMENT AND TELL ME WHAT U THINK OF IT

Look at the timeslot Jericho got. Thats where CBS screwed up. But I saw alot of advertizments… Oh, and don’t hanbd it over to the sci-fi channel, i don’t get that. But I mean, hell there are ALOT more people watching Jericho out there than just the ones who sent nuts. I didn’t send nuts (i was, but i had no cash), and what isn’t taken into account here is the other channels. CTV and Space are also airing Jericho, and Citytv was last season, i mean, the numbers on those channels aren’t taken into account, and Space and CTV have given Jericho a better timeslot. I woudln’t be shocked if CTV got more viewers than CBS, mainly because CBS screwed up the timeslot majorly. Also, Jericho was the number 3 show for it’s timeslot of tuesday, and better in the important 18-49 range of viewers, ya I love Jericho, I got the first season when it came out, yes I am 14 and still in school, but I am also able to see what is going on here. I hope Jericho isn’t tossed, although numbers aren’t what they could be, and below any number of the first season, it still has 5 episodes to prove it self, before CBS shows the season finale created, or the series finale that was created… thats right 2 were created… I just hope its the season… and i guess maybe they could leak the series on the net just so we can see LOL. I think viewers will pick up more after 3 episodes, cause the 3 that were leaked on the internet, people have seen them. Things will pick up…
Anyway, bye all

Now I found out that it didnt really matter. If I'm not a neilsen, why should I even other turning on my Tv or watchin online. I agree Sci-fi should buy it, I'm sure the viewership will be enough for cable.

I was aware that the first three eps were loaded up on the torrents of doom, but I didn't think that would cut into the audience too much considering what people had told me about having to click this specific link in order to get the password for opening the .rar files that held those eps.

It sounded very sketchy to me and like people wouldn't want to give up personal info to get said password.

Certainly, besides some mainstream advertising, CBS didn't do much.

Considering the content in season two, you would think that they would have reached out to some political blogs.

Also, where was Skeet's tour of the morning talk shows? Where was the promo for the show? Why didn't they put some people out there to talk about it?

It looks to be such a good run of shows, more people should see them.

Rich, I expect Jeriho to get at least 7 more episodes on the air, regardless of the ratings. Itunes doesn't matter, the early leak doesn't matter, views on cbs.com, don't matter. DVR usage won't matter (unless it's ASTRONOMICAL).

I'm willing to bet a beer that the next 2 installments won't fare any/much better than last week's premiere. I wish it were not so, but sometimes one data point is enough. Sadly for me, this is one of those times.

Hey Robert,

I felt the same way you did when those numbers came out. However, it's very difficult to say where CBS is on Jericho right now. They've implemented several promotional decisions, including a free release on iTunes and promos during Survivor, and the message from the producers seemed encouraged. They're even considering gaming rights.

Look for the episode 2 and 3 to tell the full story. I imagine that is what CBS is doing. Especially given that ratings are down across the board.

Best,
Rich

Ana, sad to say that article is irrelevant to Jericho's real situation. It would be relevant if another 7 million people were actually watching Jericho online, but then CBS would be issuing press releases about Jericho's 14 million total viewers.

Where new media is HEADING and where new media IS RIGHT NOW are two very different things. I do agree it will get there, but as far as this sort of thing goes, I'd guess it won't matter for at least another 5 years.

To Robert Seidman: Check out this article about how Neilson was changed because of Jericho: http://copywriteink.blogspot.com/2008/02/opening-hollywood-writers-strike-ends.html

New Media has to be addressed in the counting because it is too convienient for people to watch tv when they want and where they want. None of the networks want to address the new media counting, but they are going to have to, or be left behind. All you have to look at is 3 words: The Writer's Strike. What do you think they were all fighting for. They know where new-media is heading and where people are really tuning in for their favorite shows.

CBS keeps saying that they need all eyeballs on their TV screens at a certain time LIVE, but all of us that do this without neilson boxes do not get counted. Tell me how does this work? Neilson needs to find a way to count live viewings on everyones TV including New Media watchers. I have never trusted Neilson. Another article I found on the web posted how Jericho changed the way Neilson works, they found a flaw in their system and are trying to find a way to make these numbers more accurate. I just wish they would do this before more quality programs get tossed aside because of an error in numbers. Long Live Jericho!

Jane, Jericho being most watch online is not to its credit, it's a big strike against it, and CBS' reluctance to release any info also suggests it's not true. More people did not watch Jericho online (at least via CBS, itunes or any LEGAL method) or CBS would be issuing press releases about that all the time. If something has 7 million viewers a week online, CBS would shout about it all the time.

Moreover, if it's true for Jericho, it's also true for shows like House and Lost -- if Nielsen is flawed with Jericho, it's flawed with those shows too -- but those shows do MUCH better than Jericho.

Online and DVR viewing will not save Jericho (at least not on a broadcast network during primetime), only more live viewers will save it.

We also need TiVo viewers. CBS has learned that Jericho is most watched online and they also know Nielsen is flawed. Our major complaint still stands: Count ALL viewers & not just Nielsen ones.

Please help get Jericho renewed again. You can do that by emailing CBS at audsvcs@cbs.com after every episode and tell them you watched. This is the only way CBS can count the viewers who are not Nielsen Ratings households.

CBS is also looking at online activity. So while you're waiting for your Season One DVD, you can watch full Jericho episodes online at: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/jericho/video/
