btw, Summer fans (which is probably everyone still checking this thread), I just heard that T:SCC and Summer got some worship from a place I never would have expected: CBS.

The T:TSCC-fandom appears to be coming from all angles these days, the show was featured in the opening dialog of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory yesterday!

I’m curious if anyone saw this episode? Robert? You watch that show don’t you?

I think for shows with 20 million viewers or more, the lead-in is important if for no other reason that promoting the lead-out. I think the networks main goal is to establish a routine. In some cases they succeed (CBS Monday, Wed and Thur), ABC, at least when it has DWTS has Sun, Mon, Tue, Thu, etc. There are quite a few days a week though where the networks struggle to create a routine.

In the new world, I don’t know that they can reasonably expect to more than 3 or 4 days a week.

Again, lead-in has some value around huge anchor shows. Idol, DWTS, CSI, Grey’s, Desperate Housewives, and I suppose Law & Order. There aren’t many of them.

In fact NA and Sarah Connor probably would have done better if FOX had just paired them both on the same night. At least it’s a similar audience. As it is, I think for next season FOX should seriously consider pairing TSCC with Dollhouse. That way all the Summer/Firefly/Whedon/Buffy/Eliza/Angel/Terminator fans can tune in on the same night.

With Terminator 4 scheduled for a May 2009 release, how can they not give us one more season. Seems like there’s just too many promotional opportunities via May sweeps.

Still, I’m not sure the Terminator movie will really need the promo, and thus far Summer isn’t in the cast (though, who knows!) I do know they have Christian Bale slated in the role of John Connor, and it would ne outrageously cool if they could work Summer in.

The last pilot that I did, which never went anywhere, I had hired the same casting agents as Joss [Whedon] had. So they brought Summer in one day, and I fell in love with her. And I tried casting her, but I was in second position to Serenity, the movie. This was right before – Serenity was just starting up. I don’t know if they were sure exactly it was gonna go. And I loved her and I used to carry her audition tape around with me and say “I want Summer Glau,” and they would always say “You can’t have her. She’s gonna do Serenity.” And I was like “Damn you, Joss Whedon!” And then obviously I saw her in Serenity and thought she was perfect in it and always kept her in mind. And like Lena, there was really no second choice. That part is basically written for her.

As for Britney getting ratings, I think I have to chalk that up to the “train wreck” phenomenon more than anything else. She’s nothing more than tabloid curiosity to so many people now, it’s sad. And I think the networks know this. They’re just that desperate for ratings it seems.

That said, when your best claim is that you hung on to most of the lead-in of a REPEAT, I don’t see it as a good of a sign as say, outperforming a repeat. Also the House repeat had 8.2 million viewers the last half hour and the first 1/2 hour of NA had 6.4 million.

I know there was a lot of competition from ABC & CBS between 8p-10p, but even still a repeat on FOX drew almost 2 million more viewers than NA. Perhaps House is a better lead-in for 2.5 Men, even though it’s on another network…
