Early Jericho Nielsen Numbers

One last time with the early Jericho ratings report for old time's sake.  Looks like the finale pulled pretty much the same kind of numbers it's been pulling the last few weeks with a 3.4/6 household rating/share in the earliest overnights (Big Brother did a 3.4/5).  The rerun of NCIS did a 6.3/10.  The ever-prescient Marc Berman writes of Jericho:

"...which would have had a better chance of survival if the network put it back in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour."

True, but that's like saying that if the offensive line had blocked better, Tom Brady wouldn't have been knocked down so many times and the Patriots would've won the Super Bowl and have been 19-0!

I may not wind up seeing Omar on Lost, but at least I got to see Marlo on Jericho!

The Wire’s Jamie Hector (Marlo Stanfield) on Jericho!

P.S. I have to give Berman credit, he called the early departure for Penn Gillette off DWTS. Penn got ousted along with Monica Seles. I didn't see that coming!

Well it figures as much. Yeah it would have been better at 8pm…and maybe it would have done better without a huge break between season 1 and season 2. And it would have done better if it hadn’t been shelved in the middle of season 1. What can you do now though?

I hope we get to see the alternate ending at least, if not the show on another network somewhere.

someone will probably drop a million pounds of nuts on me for saying this Danielle, but I think Ms. Barbee may have been a better writer than an executive producer.

Exec producer needs to think about $$$. If the goal was to make money, they would have had the alternate finale on iTunes right now priced at like $4.99 instead of $1.99. Patriots and Tyrants (last night’s episode) is already up on iTunes, but not the alternate ending.

Maybe it would have done better if we Americans were not so stupid. It amazes me how many people watch reality tv and game shows.

There is nothing in there for the brain. When I watch a reality show like idol or bb I probably have 3 alpha waves during the entire show.

Until we wipe the drool off our chins and start watching things that make us think shows like Jericho will continue to get canceled.

    Nuts Robert! :)

But, you’re entitled to your opinion, of course. Instead of nuts, the Jericho fans are mobilizing with an all-out assault of…letter writing. Yep, good old fashioned, SNAIL MAIL. Hopefully, we can convince another cable network to help Jericho make the jump.

So, do you really think that the Executive Producer of the show has the legal ability to set what iTunes sells of a Network rights held series and the pricing? Doesn’t sound like the kind of thing The Company would let any producer handle. Be serious. Unless you know that for sure, I think that’s a crazy thing to say.

KIC, if what you’re saying is “that’s more CBS’ fault than Carol Barbee’s” I wouldn’t disagree with you. But one of the jobs of the exec producer is to manage the relationship with the network.

This was Barbee’s first time as an executive producer — I’m sure she learned a lot and will take that experience with her on her next effort.

I think if they offered iTunes an exclusive to sell the alternate finale, they could get away with a price like that. It would just be some kind of agreement between itunes and CBS or whoever. Different full CDs go for different prices there, why couldn’t a special episode of a show that will never air on TV go for a special price too. This isn’t something that happens very often so there is really not a lot of precedent for it.

I agree, I’d buy it in a heartbeat, even if it were being included on the DVD.

You aren’t answering me though. Would an EP be able to legally wrangle that? I’ve seen nothing on iTunes to tell me they could. I’m not saying it’s anyones fault, I’m saying who would think that is even an option and you have been unfairly harsh, IMO, to point a finger at Barbee saying basically “shame on you”. And it WILL be on the DVD and may be on the website.

Sorry KIC, I miss read what you said, I thought you were saying they couldn’t set the price because of stanardized iTunes prices. My bad, its been a long day (and its only noon!)
