Is MTV a Bigger Deal Than The CW?

Check out these numbers posted by Travis Yanan on Marc Berman's forums, for the season premiere of The Hills this past Monday:

The Hills (MTV, 10pm, 62 minutes)
- 4,789,000 viewers
- 3.1/5 HH
- 2.8/7 A18-49
- 4.7/13 A18-34

aka a heck of a lot better than any numbers The CW has put up in 2008.

MTV’s The Hills

Wow.  Almost 5 million viewers at the later 10pm hour, with great numbers in the coveted 18-34.   Is MTV a Bigger Deal than the CW?  If we get out our Magic 8-balls, it seems to say "all signs point to yes."  I'd rather watch Supernatural than The Hills, but the numbers are impressive and since I'm not 18-34, MTV (and the CW for that matter) probably don't care what I think.

Robert– MTV is definitely a bigger deal than the CW and it should be! I vowed never to watch any show on the CW again after it cut VM and I know a bunch of other people that did too. They completely alienated a large part of their fan base (i.e., I've been watching the WB since I was in high school and fully intended to keep on watching the CW for a while to come…before they cancelled VM). One year later, it seems even more obvious that it was a bad idea. Bitter? Yeah. But now I don't even pause on the channel.

MTV isn't a bigger deal on average in primetime than the CW, but USA and Disney are.
