When you have big names like Pamela Reed and Gerald McRaney, regardless of their age, of course their salaries are going to be high. Combine them with Skeet Ulrich and Esai Morales and you can only imagine what it must cost to keep them. The rest of the cast is relatively unknown, except for Ashley Scott from Birds of Prey, as well as D.B. Sweeney.

I’m not trying to attack the actors, but a lot of this boils down to celebrity ego, who’s getting what and who’s not. The only reason Pamela and Gerald were let go was because it COST too much to keep them in every episode.

I think part of Robert’s post is to point this out. I’m not saying you don’t need a couple big names to headline a show, but I think Jericho was a bit ambitious (and dare I say it, pretentious) with their casting choices.

It would’ve been wiser for them to try and go with an unknown cast because they would’ve saved even more money. Thus, keeping costs lower. Part of the reason some shows survive is not because of how many viewers it gets or how big the effects are, it’s cost. CBS will probably order another season of Moonlight not because it’s the best show on television, but because they don’t have so much money invested in it as there was for Jericho.

In the case of DVD and iTunes revenue, from what i gather (unverified, couldn’t get good numbers for either) it was peanuts. But there are fairly reliable sources for weekly DVD sales, and Jericho never made any of those charts sadly.

I am a huge Jericho fan and don’t share your opinion that the show is finished, but do appreciate the fact that you are willing to “mix it up” with your detractors. How much of the cancellation had to do with the fact that the networks can’t properly value DVD, DVR, iTunes and web #’s? As many have said, regardless of what happens with Jericho, one of its legacies will be how these new mediums must be included in evaluating a show.

I never called myself an expert (and still don’t!). I believe I’m as right about this as I was about calling CBS’ cancelling Jericho based on the season 2 premiere numbers — but that didn’t require any real expertise either.

Ya I can see you saying its highly doubtful next to impossible but I trust Carol to be upfront and honest and that is what she has been through the whole thing.

@David — watching tv a LONG time (if all my life is a long time). But writing about TV is new for Bill and me. The site really was born out of one of our regular lunches that have been going on for quite a few years now (see the “about” section in the site nav). Now..off to the beach
