BigMeanie, yep, I pretty much knew that all along in regards to Jerichos time slot. Even CANE did better than Jericho in that slot. I was a huge Jericho Season 1 fan (loved Gerald McRaney) but Season 2 just fell flat on its face by doing the old Iraq War allegory and stock evil corporations route; and turning way too dark and depressing. Also, they had to use a different batch of writers for Season 2 who clearly didnt watch much of Season 1 resulting in several huge plot holes. Half of its fandom is trying to get the show back by harrassing Nielsen with peanuts. Thats the real sign a series is over for good – when its hard core fans lose their minds.

I guess that the timeslot issue of Jericho really doesnt matter. Last night they put up a show that people wanted to watch and they got killer numbers finally winning the 10pm slot.

@Daniel, yep you did think of that before and there is no denying it. I’m not “softening” on CBS so much as like most men, I’m distracted by whatever is in front of me right now. It’s hard to argue that CSI: Miami (and the Monday night lineup too) are good at attracting viewers so if that’s what the data indicate, what can I do?

I still believe BB doesn’t belong, and think that CBS moves as lethargically as a snail sometimes, largely because it is so profitable no matter what that it simply does not matter. I don’t think that’s some awful thing, it’s just that my mind is always bent around optimizing as best you can as fast as you can and CBS does not work in that fashion.

That said, a lot of that applies to all networks.

CBS’ bigger challenge, despite whatever spin Moonves and crew want to put on it is attracting more youth, where it is thumped by FOX and ABC. On a season-to-date basis, at least through 3/23, CBS best peformer in the 18-49 demo was Survivor: China (13th place) and Survivor: Micronesia (15th place).

While there is no question CBS can attract viewers, attracting the viewers that advertisers want seems to be in question. Example, NCIS and 60 Minutes are the #12 and the #13 show overall based on HH Rating but are both tied for #64 (again through 3/23) in the 18-49 demo.

I just saw the new NBC fall season schedule. WTF, “Life” being moved to Fridays at 10pm!

I hope that FOX follows NBC in renewing a low-rated drama. I mean if NBC can renew “Lipstick Jungle” (I wonder how “Journeyman” fans feel about that?), why can’t “New Amsterdam” also be renewed (along with TSCC)?

It looks like Idol slipped a few million viewers. Not that that matters, considering it still crushes everything, but I seem to recall it was recently up around 28-29 million.

Robert, Bill – I was curious about show placement on FOX. What days does the network consider it’s prime spot? Is it the Monday spot, where 24 used to sit? Or does FOX consider Idol days it’s premier days? I’m just thinking about placement for TSCC next season, where FOX might put it if they’re serious about a fall spot.

Sorry but I LOVE Big Brother and I think Julie does a fine job as the host.. I do agree that I prefer it in the summer because there is usually so much on during the normal season. But for me, I hate all the “dancing” “cooking” and “nanny” shows. I’m not saying that they aren’t any good. Its personal preference. I dont care for “survivor” nor “amazing race” but again, preference. I would prefer to watch the “human” locked-in-a-house experience. But with the writers strike now possible actors strike, I’m just fine with the houseguests coming back for another season…

Neither Bill or I has any tv industry background. Bill and I both like TV (I LOVE it) and we both LOVE number crunching, speculating and prognosticating. I’m 45, soon to be 46. Bill is in the same general ballpark but I’ll leave it to him to disclose his age. Both of our backgrounds were in high-tech, though more on the business side than the technology side.

Wow. CSI increased BB’s audience by over 8 million? I wonder how Secret Talents of the Stars will do next week? They might be better off repeating the monday CSI Miami episode instead. Still cant believe CBS is actually airing that schlock fest. So much for blaming the 10pm time slot for the demise of Jericho. I guess the only thing keeping BB on the air is its low cost. Those goofy slow-mo scenes at the beginning of SCI are goofy but funny. They should try doing one whole episode that way using sub titles instead of voices.
