Jim, If FOX programmed the 10pm hour, it’s very likely their average ratings would drop, but not by a tremendous amount.

I did some quick analysis a few weeks ago that put the overall “penalty” of the 10pm hour at 10-15%. (And even that is a bit chicken/egg, are ratings lower at 10pm because fewer people watch or because weak shows are slotted there which make fewer people watch…)

Average that in with the other 2-3 hours and it’s a downer, but not a crushing one.

Now, it might be the case that Fox programmers are so lame that they can barely fill the 15 hours they do now and the extra 7 would end up being filled with shows that would draw 3 million viewers/hour, but we’ll never know that until they try.

NCIS isn’t really that bad, this season (only seen first 4 eps in aus)but it’s been good.

I am also glad to see that FOX cannot rely on just one show. Few people seem to watch FOX on any night that American Idol does not air. Would sure be interesting to see what the ratings looked like if FOX had to program the 10:00 hour every night. I am confident they would not be at the top of the ratings.

I agree that CBS tends to rely way to heavily on crime dramas that skew older viewers, but Survivor, CSI, CSI Miami and the Monday night comedies are still entertaining to the 18-49 group. They aggravate me with some of their shows though. I’m 41 and I am still too young to watch 60 Minutes, NCIS and Cold Case. No one under 50 watches Cold Case!

I agree that CBS tends to rely way to heavily on crime dramas that skew older viewers, but Survivor, CSI, CSI Miami and the Monday night comedies are still entertaining to the 18-49 group. They aggravate me with some of their shows though. I'm 41 and I am still too young to watch 60 Minutes, NCIS and Cold Case. No one under 50 watches Cold Case!

@Josh — no, the WB did not perform as badly as the CW. Neither did UPN for that matter, but the CW doesn’t have as many stations total as the combination of CW & UPN would’ve if you added them up like that. I agree Friday night’s btwn CW and MyNetTV will be interesting with Smackdown moving.

Did The WB perform as badly as The CW? I think Friday nights next season between The CW and MyNetworkTV will be very interesting. Since MNT will have a very popular show next season hopefully the overnight numbers will be reported.
