Scoreboard for Mon. April 14, 2008 ABC CBS NBC FOX CW
Total Viewers (million) 12.51 10.16 9.62 7.66 2.00
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 3.4/9 3.6/9 2.9/8 2.5/6 1.0/2

ABC won the most viewers, but CBS is chest-thumping their victory in the 18-49 demo despite fewer viewers.  And when even a repeat of CSI: Miami at 10pm does over 10 million viewers and a 3.0 in the demo, there's room for a little gloating.

But woe is The Big Bang Theory.  Bang drew less than 8 million viewers and less than a 3.0 in the 18-49 demo. How I Met Your Mother also drew less than 8 million but at least had a 3.4 demo ratingTwo and a Half Men had it's typical solid performance with almost 14 million viewers and a 5.3 rating in the 18-49.   And Rules of Engagement had a solid outing with over 10 million viewers and a 4.0 demo rating at 9:30.   Berman says between Rules of Engagement and The New Adventures of Old Christine, Christine should be kept as it's clearly the better show in Berman's opinion.

This is an area where one man's opinion probably doesn't count at all - unless that one man is Leslie Moonves, in which case it would count a lot.  I look at the numbers and think - hmmmm keep both of them and maybe move The Big Bang Theory to the CW.  In fairness I'd like to see Bang run AFTER 2.5 Men once just to get a flavor of how important the lead-in and/or timeslot might actually be in that case.  But numbers wise both Engagement and Christine look far better than Big Bang.  Sorry Kaley C., still love you.

The "girls gone wild" spring break edition of Deal or No Deal didn't seem to do anything for its numbers, but it was a 2 hour edition and the final half hour had over 12.5 million viewers and a 3.7 in the 18-49 demo (meaning Engagement had ~20% fewer viewers but still had more 18-49 year olds watching).  Medium was solid as always in the 10pm slot.

Will New Amsterdam's bad news be Sarah Connor's (and Summer Glau's) good news?  Perhaps.  The "season" finale of NA drew 6.77 million but only a 2.1 rating among 18-49 year olds.  But it could be that similarly to shows like Lipstick Jungle its healthy LIVE+7 numbers will aid NA's cause.  We'll see soon enough.  Unlike NBC though, FOX can afford to be a bit more choosy.  Update: I was remiss in not mentioning the return of a new episode of Bones.  It averaged more viewers than either Big Bang or Old Christine, but averaged fewer 18-49 viewers.  Still, it outperformed New Amsterdamn by a hefty 1.8 million and had a lot higher 18-49 rating than NA.

Over on ABC Dancing with the Stars had the most viewers for the night averaging over 17 million during its 90 minute run.  Samantha Who? was solid, but beaten badly by Rules of Engagement in the 18-49 demo.

    It’s Tuesday! Where’s my Summer Glau/TSCC love?

    Oh, there it is.

After the previous two week’s growth for NA, I’m really surprised to see this week’s drop, especially out of a new episode of BONES, which I’d imagine would be as good a fit for NA as HOUSE.

In regards to New Amsterdam…Marc “Ba Ba Booey” Berman has been touting it’s performance the past few weeks….robert “i did it seid ways” seideman took a stand and admonished berman for being off base. Well berman called “new amsterdam” a “loser” for last night based on it ratings performance. no other commentary was mentioned. just called na a loser. on the other hand “side by side by seidman” mentioned na’s “live + 7 numbers” as a possible postive. right or wrong…this shows seidman blows berman away in assessing tv performance. marc berman is a “tv insider” like i’m brad pitt.

Ps- berman looks like a million dollars…green and wrinkled.
chubby berman has more “chins” then the hong kong phone book.
berman looks like in 6 months he’ll be dead a year.
bermans dooctor told him to take two “end-it-alls” and call him in the morning.

Whats the sudden slump? all the shows are down from last week and look at HowIMYM and TheBBT, and DancingWTS lost 2 million, whats happening? I hope TV isn’t outdated by the time I enter the industry. And u seem to be really worried about TERMINATOR, this is the first tv season that I’m following day to day, so I’ve never felt the grief of a show’s departure in real-time. Any shows of the past u wish u had more of?

Oh please, The Big Bang Theory still finished second in the 18-49 demo and 25-34. The 8:00 show is going to go lower and lower in daylight savings time. Remember, these are spring numbers. The Big Bang Theory is doing fine. If it switched time slots with HIMYM again the numbers would be reverse again. These two shows are about equal. The 8:30 will outdraw the 8:00 show always simply because of more people watching TV at 8:30.

    dearme,

It is all daylight savings time. During the spring the numbers will naturally drop for all shows in the 8:00 hour. Also, Bones and Deal or No Deal came into the 8:00 hour and that is why BBT and HIMYM dropped. Those shows are still doing fine considering the time of year. In the Fall, when lots of people are watching TV again they will both jump up to normal levels. Don’t worry about these spring numbers.

  17. Ron — you have at least ONE advantage over me (better data — and I’m jealous).

I agree completely with you about DST impacting 8pm though. But I don’t know if BB would perform as well as Christine or Rules of Engagement at 9:30 — that’s why I said I’d love to see it air in that slot once to get a feel.

Otherwise, if CBS has to cut one comedy (and I’m not saying it does — I was just tailing on to Berman’s comments) I’m not sure the choice should be between Rules and Christine.

As far as BBT performing in the 9:30 slot I do not know. I am not sure that it is compatible with Two and Half Men. What I am saying is BBT is being affected by the 8:00 time slot change and nothin else. If BBT and HIMYM changed time slots again the numbers would reverse again. BBT still finished second in it time slot in the 18-49 and 25-34 demo, so it is doing fine. It got a better demo than Bones and Deal or No Deal. At 8:00, the demos will only be so high in spring. Young people are out doing things in the better weather. By the way, here are the second place numbers form BBT from CBS :

BIG BANG THEORY (4.7/08, 7.69m) was second in adults 25-54 (3.5/09) and adults 18-49 (2.9/08).
