I agree the announcers can be very annoying. one of my first experiences with HD (winter 2002) was that HD Network would simulcast some NHL games and dedicate one whole period to "The Sounds of the Game" which is exactly the experience you describe -- all the arena sounds with no commenters. I enjoyed it. I sort of wish that was an option with all sports via the SAP (secondary audio program)

I watched the end of the Capitals game, in part because of your previous posts on it. I'm not a hockey fan at all, but I was intrigued by the action.

A technical glitch on NBC's telecast caused only the ambient audio of the arena to be broadcast in the last minute of the game. The talking was gone. I kind of enjoyed being able to experience the game without the commentary. I'd watch more hockey if I could experience the game this way with a minimum of talking.
