Some things are easily predictable and at this point predicting that ABC will win the most viewers on a Monday and that CBS will win the 18-49 year old age demographic and be followed by NBC, FOX and The CW is one of them.
Dancing with the Stars was again the most watched show on a Monday night (17.82 million), but CBS has that youthful Monday spring in its step. The most notable thing to me of the night was not DWTS (or Gossip Girl) but rather how totally Rules of Engagement destroyed Samantha Who? in the 18-49 demographic. It was a Smackdown! The shows had about the same amount of viewers (10.13 million for Samantha, 10.6 million for Rules) but Rules had a 4.1/10 in the 18-49 demographic where Samantha could muster but a 2.9/7.
Other things that stick out to me. If the there is a lower HUT (household universe of television - jargon for the number of homes with televisions turned on and watching tv) at 8pm due to Daylight Savings Time why does FOX run the new episode of Bones at 8pm and a repeat of House at 9pm?
Why not switch that around. As it is, the repeat of House did about as well as the new Bones. That seems dumb to me and I'd switch it up. I understand the fear around "changing things around", but in this day in age, people can find the shows they want to watch. It seems like Bones would've gotten more juice at 9pm. But, alas, I'm an unemployed blogger not a network executive.
As for Gossip Girl the only nice thing I can say about it was I found the title of last night's episode, "The Blair Bitch Project" at least mildly amusing. Only 2.44 million tuned in, even though there will be no Internet streaming. We can conclude that little stunt accomplished, well, absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, One Tree Hill with total lack of promotion and abundant Internet streaming reeled in 2.82 million or almost 16% more viewers than Gossip Girl. Update: I did not give Gossip Girl or the CW enough credit with regard to improvements in the 18-49 demo, which did improve over the pre-strike average. More here.

Atleast it was another good showing out of HIMYM. Looks like CBS will probably renew this series. They better atleast.

I agree Matt. Even without Britney, those are good numbers. Not so good for TBBT, though I know everyone will say if HIMYM and it switched timeslots, the ratings would reverse. I’d like to see them do just that next week so we can see if that’s the case but CBS’ goal isn’t to satisfy my curiosity!

This is getting ridiculous. Everyone I know watches Gossip Girl- but they all have to watch it online due to college/work. Besides, I don’t even know who these Nielsen people are. Maybe what they should do is not promote Gossip Girl, so as to not waste their money on ads, take it off the airwaves for a week, and only show that episode on iTunes. Then you’ll know how many people are watching (and you’ll make a little money, too). Then just add in a BUNCH of product placement and presto.

GG did good considering that almost every show is under the weather, I mean atleast it didn’t lose any viewers and has perhaps gained few.
I think the show is sheer trash but it is shot spectacularly and those clothes, OMG! I love NY.

@dearme — they don’t even air Gossip Girl where you live and Internet streaming is turned off. Did you download via iTunes?

The 2.9 on “Samantha Who”…in todays TV world…wont hurt..years ago it would have..but that was back when development found new break out hit scripted pilots with greater regularity…so what we see is networks renewing shows doing average to below average numbers…why?…same reason you dont throw your wife out…you know what she brings to the table…as opposed to some new ball and chain…who very well…would perform worse. and cost you more in the long run. as for mark “verman” the “tv bystander”…on appearance alone…he will never be mistaken for a high powered tv network executive.

I read CW is ecstatic about the 18-34 demo numbers.

They air Gossip Girl in India? Really? With the most recent episodes?
As for “surfthechannel”, pretty sure the CW would consider that an illegal streaming site, but it’s impressive how quickly they get the new episodes up!
