I wish I had a sure-fire way to cheer up Ted Leonsis and all the Capitals fans. Ted is handling things well as evidenced by his blog postings. And since he singlehandedly is the reason I got into NHL for the first time since about 1986 - thanks for all the enjoyment! The Washington Capitals were very fun to watch.
Really fueling my fire to do this blog with Bill were discussions with Ted over national hockey ratings. NBC just renewed its deal with the NHL. NBC Sports honcho Dick Ebersol is a believer and so am I. The Nielsen ratings for the regular season games broadcast nationally on NBC were up 11% overall and up 33% among men 18-49 according to Nielsen, a key target demo for sports.
And Caps fans, if you're still feeling down and needing your spirits lifted a little, this video clip which has absolutely nothing to do with hockey usually does the trick for me. Enjoy. Update: I'm advised that they play this clip on the big screen at the Verizon center at Capitals games sor the fan(s) who actually bring cow bells to the games. It's not as unrelated as I thought! Next year I plan to come home for a game or two and "Rock the Red".
