Cable News Ratings Thursday, May 1

May 4th, 2008

Please note: You can view ALL our cable news ratings data, which is regularly updated daily, Monday-Friday (we get the weekend data, too but usually not until Tuesdays, but we post them then).

Today begins a new cable news rating report philosophy here at TVbytheNumbers. In the past, I'd opted for delaying ratings till the end of the week so I could make a nice chart with weekly and historical data from a few shows. Instead, I've decided it's better to provide all the data as soon as we get it in a somewhat less pretty format.

So without further ado, here are all the cable news shows, and all the cable news networks, for all the time periods we have available.

  1. Rob

I’m always amazed by how well Fox News does.

  2. Jim

They even have Democratic opperatives saying that Fox has been more “fair and balanced” in their coverage. A person would have to be deaf and blind not so see how MSNBC is so in the tank for Oboma – Especially that Keith Olbermann clown who purports to be a reporter when he is so obviously a rabid advocate

  3. Kevin

Hi, is it possible you show these data with graphics like what you did before? Thanks!

  4. Kevin, I will still do a weekly O’Reilly v. Olbermann chart on Friday’s, but for the majority of the cable news ratings information, I’m going with daily text posts with all the data instead of weekly charts with only a fraction of the data.

  5. Kevin

Oh, I mean can you also provide “daily” graphics (hour-by-hour ratings)? That would be easier and faster to figure out… Thanks!

  6. My vote is this: no, sorry, at least not for daily posts.

I’d rather sacrifice some prettiness for timeliness and not creating extra workloads for something most people on our site don’t actually look at. Bill of course may feel free to agree, or completely overrule me here…

  9. Let me agree 100%.

I produced daily cable news charts back when we began the site last fall. You can see them if you click on the “Cable News” category and go way back.

They were too much work for far too little traffic, so they won’t be coming back.

Oh, ok, so sad, but I still wanna explain: The graphic “I mentioned” is not like what you did before (because they are day-by-day trend), what I want is the day’s hour-by-hour rating graphic (although I know it seems impossible…)

  15. Kevin, you could always make the chart yourself. We’d probably link to it :-)

  18. Oh no, I did hourly charts, here’s one of them

Way, way too much work for the payoff.
