men-in-trees.gifTV Guide is reporting that ABC has cancelled Men in Trees:

ABC has gone and canceled one of TV's most consistently heartwarming hours, Men in Trees.

The sad, depressing news was just confirmed to me by series creator Jenny Bicks, who says she was informed of the network's decision late last week. "I am really proud of the work we did on MIT," she tells me. "A huge thank you to our supportive fans."

Bicks believes that two years of schizophrenic scheduling ultimately did the cherished dramedy in. "I wish the show had not been moved six times and put onto two long hiatuses," she sighs. "No show could survive that."

I actually thought the show was consistently boring . . . no loss here!

I’m sure all the fans will object to this, but very smart move by ABC. While the show did a bit better early in its career, it was still losing a huge percentage of its lead in. Bicks and fans can use whatever excuses they want, but they are just lucky to have gotten two seasons period, when it really should have been canceled at least after the first season, and possibly not given a full first.

angie412… just curious… why did you watch a show that was consistently boring? not a MIT fan here… never saw it. just curious why someone would watch a show enough to know it’s consistently boring.

  4. Guess Who

They could retool the show and call it TREES WITHOUT MEN.

Okay, I guess I was exaggerating. I watched three or four episodes when it was on after Grey’s Anatomy, thought they were all boring, and then I stopped. I just couldn’t get into it at all. But I am strange. I often can’t get into shows other people seem to love. CSI/Law&Order/BostonLegal? Can’t stand a one of them. But I love Bones. I don’t know what that says about me.

WTG ABC. With 2 long hiatuses and being moved 6 times, just seems like they wanted the show to fail. I’m sure it will be replaces with another mindless reality show. Like there aren’t enough already.

The show could could have been savaged by consolidating characters. ie. Marion’s NY friend was a worthless character totally unbelievable that she would hook up w/ an Alaskan type. The storyline w/ character with the lost memory went on way to long without a satisfying (or not) conclusion. The hooker and the priest bit had nowhere to go because there was not enough REAL conflict in that relationship. Marion and Jack’s relationship jumped the shark when they moved in together as happens with most Sit coms. They actually needed MORE Men In Trees! They should have played up Marion and Case’s ( kidney guy) relationship and given her more of a conflict with both men. The girl friend of amnesia guy and the Koren gal where total mishandled Red head to Ditzy and Korean to calculating. Could go onbut then again RSVP MIT, could have been saved….

I am crushed…..it was my favorite show to watch and I had no problem finding it even though it moved around. ABC should look to add it back into the network….maybe people are tired of every piece of programming being some miserable reality show….what happened to good old TV. Other than Boston Legal I don’t even turn on abc unless it may be sports……abc used to be my go to channel. What a shame…it is fun to watch easy viewing…..instead of consistently having to watch drama/death/criminal minds/serial killer turned cop friend….there is enough of all of that on the news everyday. MIT was refreshingly silly..(just like Boston Legal!!!)….we could all use a bit of that!!!

I do not really enjoy TV anymore. I despise all of the reality shows. Along with Lost, Men in Trees was my favorit show and I would search for it each and every week, since it changed nights and times so often. I am truly sad it is gone, it was a light hearted show that one could just sit and relax and laugh during.

  17. Lisa

This was my favorite show….I can’t believe they would just cancel the show without ending it.
