Mary, yes — because Marc, as he's often wont to do, compares this year's overnights with last year's FINAL numbers. In the overnight numbers last year Idol averaged 29.47m. I don't know that there were the overrun and other issues this year that will drive Idol overnight numbers much higher, but we'll see soon enough.

For some reason, Zap2it is reporting that last year's finale was 29.5 million viewers, which would make this year an increase over last. Any idea why their numbers are different from yours and Marc Berman's?

i'm sure you'll like BL from last night once you find it somewhere. was really good. more balanced than usual. BL has had such a weird season. they went from best (dancing) to worst (carpoolers and lost finale and supernanny) when it comes to lead-ins all year.

it's interesting too that you can't find BL on abc.com or hulu. Since they are a fox show on abc... they are stuck in the :twilight zone" so to speak when it comes to being rebroadcast on the internet.

it still makes no sense to me why they didn't just shelve WMC once they axed it and put legal back on tuesdays. they could have secured 10 million last week. seems like abc just wasted everything they had with those shows.

Can you do a list with the ratings for the past AI finales, like you've done for the country awards, NBA finals, Kentucky Derby, etc.?

angie, the season ends tonight, only summer programming now until September.

As for NBC, they gave up on this season months ago.

I am disturbed that within a few hours I see: Law & Order repeats, Law & Order finale, Boston Legal, Criminal Minds and CSI: NY.

What, are we pod people or something? Original progamming!!!!!
