Since Moonlight is no longer airing on CBS I'm going back to TLC & Discovery Channel! What Not To Wear and Man Vs Wild are much more entertaining than GW or #'s!

- Another one of the 8 million fans of Moonlight forced to watch on Amazon UnBox!

I miss my fav. paranormal romance show, Moonlight. I can't wait for True Blood on HBO based on the Sookie Stackhouse books 7th Sept, 2008! Lots of romance and sex I bet + vampires.

Hey! Robert Siedman,
You must be loving all this inter-action going on here , getting all this attention.
I'm a MOONLIGHT fan as well (and as much as I am upset with CBS) I do not approve of hateful CBS bashing.
Please say something nice about MOONLIGHT....I kinda think you may have been a fan as well.. Am I right or wrong? "thanks"

i am one of the "CRAZED: Moonlight fans. While I haven't bashed any other fans of anyother show, I am very upset that CBS canceled this awesome show. It's extremely frustrating to finally find a show that makes you feel good, then to have it canceled.. I understand now what the Jericho fans were going through. CBS did not listen to their viewers. Aren't we the customers here.......We would like our show back on.....

Huh, Suggiemac? No entiendo. Nobody is backing CBS in anything. I could care less about CBS. What I am fighting against are the ML fan gurl/boys who have invaded the internet and are turning just about everything into a "I CANT BELEVE CBS IZ SO STOOPID!" dialog. It's pointless, and it's making people hate you.

What is so criminal about ML getting cancelled, anyway? Most new series DO get cancelled, and there have been many SO much better cancelled prematurely. I mean, if this would have been a kurfluffle over My So Called Life umpteen years ago, I would understand. But Moonlight? Really? Who cares?

Huh, Suggiemac? No entiendo. Nobody is backing CBS in anything. I could care less about CBS. What I am fighting against are the ML fan gurl/boys who have invaded the internet and are turning just about everything into a "I CANT BELEVE CBS IZ SO STOOPID!" dialog. It's pointless, and it's making people hate you.

Michele
While you are being so defensive of CBS are you also backing the pornographic material that they are allowing members to post on their forums??
I am sure that the ever important sponsors will not like it as much.
No matter how low you think Moonlight fans have gone it compares in no way to the sleeze being posted on the other forum!!!

I love when the Moonlight fans try to say it wasn't about ratings, it was about money. RATINGS ARE MONEY. Had Moonlight not sucked it in the 18-49 so badly, CBS could've up their ad rates for that timeslot and afforded to pay more for the show.

And no one betrayed and misled you. They cancelled a show that EVERYONE knew was on the bubble. Even by virtue of it being featured in those "Odds of Survival" articles that you all like to tout as proof that it was a shoe-in for renewal, it was in danger. Shows that are truly a shoe-in are not featured in the annual bubble reports. I guarantee you that C.S.I., Lost, The Office, etc., were not being given odds of renewal.

I really think the only thing CBS regrets is dumping Close To Home, which performed much better in viewers and slightly better in demos than ML. That was shortsighted.

According to Hollywood Reporter on May13th "Warner Bros. TV's "Moonlight," meanwhile, was done in by a combination of factors despite having developed a cadre of passionate fans.

It's understood that Eye execs were not impressed with the show's creative development, and there was much drama and turnover behind the scenes among producers and scribes and tussling between the network and studio over budgetary issues. The final straw was the show's sagging ratings perf during the past few weeks after its post-strike return."

JustMick - if you don't think Moonlight's cancellation was about ratings, specifically very lousy performance in the 18-49 demo (not just relative to Friday night, but relative to ALL CBS shows), please by all means regale us with your conspiracy theory! :-)

What continues to amaze me is that people still want to argue about the ratings. We all know Moonlight's cancellations was not about the ratings in spite of the smoke screen thrown up by CBS. CBS & WB decided to have a p*ssing contest over who pays for what and we, not they, paid the price.

""Crazed Fans" Well I was just at Moonlight Convention and I did not see one crazed person there."

So much irony in that statement...

Why are you comparing repeats now to repeats that aired back in January? HUT levels are lower this time of the year and now series repeats as well in June as it does in January. That's a FACT.

Compared to the year ago night:

CBS: -4% , ABC: -17%, NBC: +17%, CW: -7%, Fox: -15%

-Adults 18-49:
ABC: -13%, CBS -7%, CW -17%, NBC: 7%, Fox: -15%

CBS's numbers are basically flat from last year. Considering it's gotten rid of the Moonlighting crazies, i wouldn't say it's too concerned.

And if CBS really did drop the ball in dropping Moonlighting, why weren't other networks chomping at the bit to pick it up?

Whether a person likes Moonlight or not is a matter of taste, but facts are facts, even concerning Moonlight. According to the numbers from this site, Moonlight got 5.45 million viewers one rerun week, and 5.73 on another rerun week, plus I think that the lowest demo numbers the poor show got were these last few episodes, 1.9. The other night GW looked like it had about 1.1 million less viewers than Numb3rs did when it was on in ML's former time slot. Earlier in the spring, when The Price is Right was on, it had like 10 million viewers when it was on in GW's spot, but by the time it was moved to Moonlight's spot, it was getting 8 million and something viewers. Now, perhaps some would point out that it still had more viewers than ML, but it still had at least a million less viewers than Numb3rs did. So, if the two different shows that are shown in that time slot still lose about a million viewers, just liike ML did, then there must be other factors involved besides the programming choice.
Also, this site and many other media outlets talked about how this past spring/sweeps that every network lost viewers-even shows like American idol, which still had a big audience, was down statistically. Yet, Moonlight was expected to grow an audience in an environment where others were losing theirs, even the most "popular" shows. For some reason CBS is insane when it comes to that Friday night spot. If they weren't then they would not have cancelled Close to Home the year before. Also, they were obviously more subjective concerning Moonlight than they have admitted. Last fall, when everything was still first run, Moonlight outdid its competition where it counted, in the sacred "demo." If it hadn't, then Women's Murder Club would have probably survived, because I think it had more actual viewers than Moonlight, but not by many. It also beat Friday Night Lights. Under most circumstances, when a network's show is defeating the other networks in the areas it expects the show to perform in, it survives. Moonlight may not have been a ratings rocket, but it did win its demo, and because it did CBS won Friday night. CBS stated last fall that Moonlight helped it win sweeps on Friday night.
Again, only the CBS execs themselves know why they have such unreasonable expectations on a night when most people, especially the demo they are supposed to be attracting, are out and about because it is the start of the weekend. Most would rather do something more interesting than sit in front of the tv at home, especially since they can now record almost anything they want to see and watch it at their leisure.

According to the numbers from this site, Moonlight got 5.45 million viewers one rerun week, and 5.73 on another rerun week, plus I think that the lowest demo numbers the poor show got were these last few episodes, 1.9. The other night GW looked like it had about 1.1 million less viewers than Numb3rs did when it was on in ML’s former time slot.
Fans of genre shows are the most passionate groups of people, if you ask me. Moonlight fans are no exception. We were misled by CBS who up to the last second, led us to believe Moonlight would be returning. Something rotten happened in Denmark and they mocked us with that promo saying we would only have 2 more Mick and Beths. How childish and disgusting is that? Everything they've done since Moonlight was cancelled has not made any sense whatsoever. They wanted more female viewers (HUH? Moonlight's main audience are women). Moonlight didn't cost too much to make, yet they picked up shows that cost more (WHAT? That's just bad business.). They claimed Moonlight was axed due to ratings. (EH? It dipped between GW and Numbers, but the ratings held steady and most other shows took HUGE nosedives after the strike).

No promotion = Nobody knows the show is on. The stars should have been on all the late night talk shows, in various entertainment magazines doing interviews, etc. Who's running CBS, anyway? Monkeys with pencils?[/inside joke]

Really, when it comes down to it, the Neisen model for tracking viewer habits is broken. You cannot look at today's mobile, wired-in society and convince me that Neisen's method of locating "families" and gathering their habits is anything even remotely close to the actual viewing habits of this country.

Anyone younger than Boomers, and Neilsen fails. Kinda like nobody saw Senator Obama's campaign coming. 18-39 year olds, pretty soon, will be the death knell of network television's current business model. We simply do not use or access media the way our parents did.

Heck, the "coveted demographic" are twenty somethings who live in colleges and apartments and move every 6-12 months from dorms to apartments to parents' homes to new cities for jobs, use cell phones and not land lines, and are just as likely to watch programs on the internet as they are on a traditional television - and Neilsen does not, and has no way to, track these people. That Neilsen purports to know what these people are watching - other than when they are at home with the 'rents part of the year - is laughable.

So putting any stock at all in ratings, at this point, is a frantic shell game played to impress advertisers.

TV as we currently know it will go away within a matter of years, at least the "20 minutes of ads for 40 minutes of story" method we've been putting up with for decades. Someday, it'll be about paying a buck for an episode instead of watching ads.

Heh. If 8 million people paid a buck to watch an episode via the internet or an On-Demand type service via cable, and the episode cost 3 million to make, the production company just made a lot of money - even after factoring in distribution costs. The network... not so much.

A production company will be able to stand up a show, design the whole thing to last 20 or 40 or 60 episodes, contract the talent, deal with the distribution, and make money. Viewers will get series that - like your average 2 hour movie - have a beginning, a middle, and a resolution. (I admire SciFi for handling the cancellation of BSG with honesty and good grace - the show's gonna get a proper ending.)

The networks are fighting an unwinnable fight to save a dying system. And since they're neck-deep in the quick sand, they make decisions willy-nilly. It's like they keep cancelling shows and trying new ones in the hopes of getting back the audience of the 70's - 20 million people, per show, for much of the top 20 shows. That will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. Shows like Firefly and Moonlight and Jericho are not the first casualties of these frantic decisions, nor will they be the last.

Really, when it comes down to it, the Neisen model for tracking viewer habits is broken. You cannot look at today’s mobile, wired-in society and convince me that Neisen’s method of locating “families” and gathering their habits is anything even remotely close to the actual viewing habits of this country.

Anyone younger than Boomers, and Neilsen fails. Kinda like nobody saw Senator Obama’s campaign coming. 18-39 year olds, pretty soon, will be the death knell of network television’s current business model. We simply do not use or access media the way our parents did.

Heck, the “coveted demographic” are twenty somethings who live in colleges and apartments and move every 6-12 months from dorms to apartments to parents’ homes to new cities for jobs, use cell phones and not land lines, and are just as likely to watch programs on the internet as they are on a traditional television – and Neilsen does not, and has no way to, track these people. That Neilsen purports to know what these people are watching – other than when they are at home with the ‘rents part of the year – is laughable.

So putting any stock at all in ratings, at this point, is a frantic shell game played to impress advertisers.

TV as we currently know it will go away within a matter of years, at least the “20 minutes of ads for 40 minutes of story” method we’ve been putting up with for decades. Someday, it’ll be about paying a buck for an episode instead of watching ads.

Heh. If 8 million people paid a buck to watch an episode via the internet or an On-Demand type service via cable, and the episode cost 3 million to make, the production company just made a lot of money – even after factoring in distribution costs. The network… not so much.

I dont think moonlight fans are crazy. They are just fighting for what they believe in. It does sound strange that CBS would cancel a show that was winning its time slot. Regardless, it appears moonlight fans have done a lot of good things like food and blood drives. If nothing else, you have to give them credit for that.

I don't know about Moonlight, but if the replacement shows are as bad as the ones previous posters have mentioned, then I think CBS should get used to losing the timeslot. Especially if their target audience is in anyway made up of women with half a brain.

Its definitely an interesting debate going on here. Unfortunately, for both sides of the issue, its extremely difficult to make and argument for or against Moonlight since its the summer. Only when the new shows and new ratings come out in the fall can we even begin to analyze and have true demographic viewership information to compare and contrast. I too dislike negative comments about Moonlight fans, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and have the right to voice their thoughts. Just as we've become dissolusioned by CBS and their treatment of us to date, so too have others fans of other shows in recent years. While we speak and feel with our hearts, CBS is a business and as such cannot afford such a luxury. Don't get me wrong. I'm in no way defending CBS's actions. Even good business practice usually comes with common courtesy and ethics, which I think where decidedly lacking during CBS's upfronts this year. But to those that persist in calling us Moonlight fans rabid and wrong in our treatment of CBS, I can only say I consider your assessment to be dead wrong. You may call us rabid. I call us passionate. You may call us crazy. I call us loyal. You may say we are hateful to CBS. I say we feel betrayed by CBS. It is our right to defend ourselves and our show. We may not succeed in finding Moonlight a new home. That is the reality of the situation. But no one, and I mean no one, can ever accuse us of not fighting, of not caring, of not being passionate and loyal to a show that many of us believe has made positive changes to our everyday lives. We will not go quietly into the night. We will fight on. Long live Moonlight! Vampire Solidarity, rah, rah, rah!

/I know. The last couple of sentences were a bit over the top (LOL) but I want to keep the Tribe jazzed and ready to take that hill! :)/
