The night had mixed leadership with ABC winning the most viewers with a rerun of Finding Nemo and FOX winning the 18-49 demo with the classic Saturday night combo of Cops and America's Most Wanted. I'm not really sure whether Cops and America's Most Wanted were not reruns with these numbers but they weren't reported as such. We probably won't know for sure until Tuesday.
Moonlight fans will love that CBS came in dead stinking last with a sub 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo with the airing of the made for TV movie Sybil, which was a remake of a made for TV miniseries based on a very successful book from my youth. The remake didn't do so well, but to paraphrase Marc Berman, if CBS didn't already think it stunk, they wouldn't have aired it on what seems to be the Saturday night TV ghetto (and in June, to boot!).
The numbers are pretty ghastly, but I suppose one way of looking at it is that it was a fairly competitive night.
Though it didn't air in primetime the preliminary metered-market overnight reports for the Belmont Stakes which saw 38-1 odds Da'Tara win in an upset where heavily favored Big Brown mysteriously finished (like CBS on Saturday) in dead last averaged a 10.5 HH rating. I never trust the overnight results for live sports events anymore but if those numbers anywhere near hold up that's a huge (150+%) increase over last year's race, a healthy chunk better than the Preakness Stakes and even a smidge above the Kentucky Derby.
I won't be shocked if those numbers wind up holding up as I'm sure there were a lot of curious onlookers interested in seeing if a horse could win the triple crown for the first time in 30 years. Much like the perfect unblemished season in the NFL, it is elusive.

We started to watch “Sybil” but then decided to walk the seven blocks to our son’s house and move the tree limbs from the latest nasty storm to the curb for the city to pick up on Monday. So CBS couldn’t even hold the interest of people outside the demos. We did make it back for the 48 Hours Mystery repeat though. I honestly think that if the networks really cared about ratings on Saturdays they would try harder. They used to have good programming on Saturdays: Bob Newhart, Carol Burnet, Mary Tyler Moore were all on Saturdays. Gee, that was when we actually were part of the demos.

sybil got a great review from the hollywood reporter. cbs should have just sold it to lifetime or something. they would have promoted it. gotten 5 million viewers and emmy nominations.
There’s something particularly bad about something when Cops outdoes it in the rankings.
Mwahahaha!!

Perhaps CBS should put Moonlight back on and they could watch their ratings go back up…
I would have watched a re-run of Moonlight but that’s because the show was great and very re-watchable.

(LMAO!!!!!) IT LOOKS LIKE CBS IS DOING REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD. THINKING CANCELING MOONLIGHT WOULD MAKE THERE RATINGS AND VIEWING BETTER.

Thank you, Mr. Seidman for being a positive voice for the Moonlight fans. We appreciate it.
I can’t say I don’t laugh when I read how bad CBS is doing now that Moonlight has been cancelled. I would watch Moonlight 7 days a week, if they’d put it on, rerun or new. I love the show THAT much.

Do you guys have a mailing list or something?
I was referring to the ML fans who seem to be invading the entire internet, not this site itself.
Doug, you can subscribe to the site via email or RSS using the box in at the top of the right most column.
Type your comment here.Thank you for your Moonlight comment. Never posted for a TV series, but Moonlight was totally screwed. What is CBS thinking, it’s new series, movies, it is almost like they what the fans of Moonlight to go postal. Never promoted Moonlight, but you promote the series Swingtown.. Lived it, hated it, and why would you think I wanted to relive it. Thanks CBS, for taking away my one hour of enjoyment a week, and giving me the trash you think I want.
