Scoreboard FOX NBC CBS ABC CW
Total Viewers (million) 8.73 6.99 6.95 4.46 1.81
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 3.2/10 2.1/6 1.6/5 1.7/5 0.7/2

Unlike Monday night when reruns stomped reality, the tables were turned on Wednesday as Fox's So You Think You Can Dance delivered the night for both viewers [8.73 million] and adults 18-49 [3.2 rating/ 10 share]. Likewise, NBC finished second for both viewers and adults 18-49 with the reality duo of Deal or No Deal and Celebrity Circus.

CBS's reruns of Price is Right, Criminal Minds and CSI:NY delivered the viewers for a close third place finish, but the adults 18-49 stayed away and it finished fourth. ABC went with reruns of reality [Wife Swap, Supernanny] and managed only a weak third in the demo. The CW, who's phones are in the process of being disconnected, managed only 2.31 million viewers for Farmer Wants a Wife. Edit: As my partner points out below, and I recognize, those results for a CW show, and a summer one at that, are relatively quite strong!

  1. not to go all contrary on you (shocking, I know) but at 2.31mm and a .9 in the demo on a $ earned vs. $ spent basis, Farmer Wants a Wife is a a CASH COW compared to Gossip Girl. And though Gossip Girl is quite fair and lovely, from a margin perspective it’s inconceivable that enough lipstick can be applied to the pig to pretty it up enough to stand in the company of Farmer Wants a Wife!

    Is it scary? Yes! But don’t worry, CW has paid its phone bill and is buying PLENTY OF LIPSTICK for the upcoming season anyway, but if they can’t get up to 4 million viewers with a new shade of pink for GG, Farmer Wants a Wife is the better business proposition, and at the scale of CW, you’d have to declare it a summer hit! (seriously).

  3. You sir are correct! My lens for looking at CW results had become obscured from disuse.

    Indeed, a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo for FWAW, does make it a bona fide summer hit for the likes of the CW.

    As you point out the far more expensive, and loved, Gossip Girl averaged only a 1.0 18-49 rating during the regular season.

    Did you guys read about how the CW held a casting call for their “hit” Gossip Girl . . . and only four people showed up? Funniest story ever!

    @Angie: Where? Got a link?

    Granted, part of that was apparently because they only wanted SAG actors, but it's still funny.
