Our time-shifting chart ranks which of the Top 40 cable shows had the largest increase in viewing between Live audience and Live+7 audience numbers from viewers watching shows later on their digital video recorders (DVRs). We include both the absolute size of the time-shifted audience (and sort the chart by that metric), and the % increase over the Live viewing.

What does “Time Shifted” mean, Bill?

  2. Stephen, generally “time-shifted” means viewed after airtime on a DVR. For this post/list in particular it means the number of viewers who watched within 7 days of the airtime via their DVR.

We also calculate the % increase in viewers from the Live viewing to the Live+7 viewing.

  3. Outlander

Is it pretty safe to assume at this point that In Plain Sight will get renewed for a second season? It seems to have held its audience pretty well; it consistently gets 4m live viewers and a bump of 1m viewers via DVR.

  4. Outlander, barring something absolutely freakish in the rest of the run or some strange business snafu, In Plain Sight is certain to be back.

  7. How did “The Secret Life of An American Teenage” do in this category?

  8. Steven, We only see the top 40 cable shows and Secret LIfe wasn’t one of them. My quick Googling failed to find a press release with the numbers, but it could be out there.
