To no one's surprise, the MLB All-Star Game boosted Fox to a prime-time win Tuesday for both viewers [13.75 million over NBC with 8.91 million] and demo adults 18-49 [4.2 rating / 13 share over ABC with a 2.7/8]. Here's the All-Star Game historical data for some comparison.
I'm of the age that while growing up, the NL *always* won, now they've gone 12 years without a win. My children live in a world where the NL has *never* won. Note: We have only hourly numbers for the game from 8-9 and 9-10 Eastern. It went until 1:37am Eastern, so the final numbers will be out later. Hollywood Review says the ratings were the best since 2001 on the first nine innings. Mediaweek puts the viewership at 14.5 million.
Baseball aside, Wipeout continued its summer stampede with 8.48 million viewers and a demo 3.1/11, and America's Got Talent, last week's #1 viewership show, did just fine vs. baseball with 12.53 million viewers and a demo 3.1/9. ABC has got to be happy with both I Survived a Japanese Game Show and Primetime last night. While others will fret about lead-in loss, their final demo numbers are strong.
We don't consistently get Univision aggregate or show data, but I wanted to give you a look at their numbers for last night. Note how they both humble the CW reruns, and tie CBS in the demo. The rest of the English media will just ignore this.
