Jason, good point. My guess at the long-term play for Apple here is to actually compete with the cable companies TV offerings with its own content offering (monthly subscription for various content). The TV industry will resist a la carte content (and is very outspoken against it already)-- but it seems like sooner or later it's bound to happen.

Still, for me DVR and iTunes are necessarily mutually exclusive. All of my media purchases (physical or iTunes) are already outside of what I DVR but I still wind up buying (what seems to me to be) a lot. Typically it's when I want to go back and see prior seasons of shows like every season of The Wire, Seasons 1-3 of Lost, Season one of Burn Notice, Seasons 1-3 of House. Season 6 of 24, etc.

Hmmm, good points. If someone has Tivo, and they can record any content on their cable essentially for free, why would they pay for tv shows via Apple TV?
