I'm not a fan of Larry King, but this picture is just too cool to pass up. Why don't I like Larry? It's not because of the suspenders. Way before the CNN days, King had a national radio show late at night. In the way back when I was 18 or so (1981ish) I was a bit of an insomniac/late-night owl and listened to the show a lot over a few year period.
King was a good host and a pretty darn good story teller. One of the stories he'd tell was about how he and a couple of his boyhood friends in Brooklyn, Herb Cohen and Dodger superstar pitcher Sandy Koufax wound up on a journey to Connecticut for some Carvel ice cream.
Years later, either the late 1980s or early 1990s I read a story on King in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine where they quote Koufax as saying something to the effect that he and King were not boyhood chums and didn't grow up together.
King did tell some great stories, but apparently at least parts of them were just that: stories. It soured me a little.
Still, I found the cereal art captivating!
