While off from its performance last week when it was only one hour long, a two hour version of America's Got Talent dominated for the peacocks at NBC, especially in the second hour (10p-11p) where it averaged 12.87 million viewers and a 3.7/11 (rating/share) among 18-49 year olds.
While up until two weeks ago, ABC's Wipeout had consistently beaten AGT among 18-49 year olds, the tide is changing. Perhaps hurt by still even fewer viewers due to summer vacations, perhaps hurt by the 8pm time slot, Wipeout's demo performance was down to a 2.8/9. Wipeout still easily won the 8pm hour in the demo even though a repeat of NCIS had about a million and a half more total viewers.
Still, it's bad news for ABC as Wipeout has been pretty much the only thing the Mouse has had to smile about all summer. Last week it had a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic once the final numbers were in so if the 2.8 holds up from last night, that's quite a hit. Oops. It turns out while not listed as a repeat, because it wasn't, last night's episode of Wipeout was a best-of style recap. Given that, there's nothing to be made of the lower than average numbers except perhaps that given it was a recap show, those numbers are pretty darn decent.
Update 08/006/08 12:40p PDT: more good news for Wipeout fans, Variety reports it has been renewed for a second season.
Two hours worth of I Survived a Japanese Game Show's season finale probably will also be its series finale. It scored under a 2.0 rating among 18-49 year old (1.8/5). Worse than a rerun of House, not to mention Feugo en la Sangre on Univision and only about the same as a repeat of FOX's Kitchen Nightmares.
Big Brother continues to perform for CBS, scoring the best 18-49 performance of the night for the Tiffany network with a 2.5/7.
