Unsurprisingly FOX won the night both with overall viewers and among 18-49 year olds with the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. While the two hour extravaganza averaged just under 10 million (9.91mm), the second hour averaged nearly 11 million (10.97mm) and the final half hour had 11.31 million viewers and a 3.8/11 in the demo. Marc Berman notes that last years finale averaged 9.61 million viewers and a 3.7/11 so this year's finale was actually up a tiny bit in terms of viewers, but down around 8% among 18-49 year olds.
NBC was in second for the night with 90 minutes of the season finale of Last Comic Standing and 90 minutes worth of a special Thursday edition of America's Got Talent. Some are carping on LCS and suggesting that this is its last season. I'm not so sure. Its ratings aren't stellar, to be sure, but if you factor in an extra six days of DVR viewing, it averaged over a 2.0 in the 18-49 demo for the season. For cheap summer fare to air during NBC's summer portion of its year round programming, and considering that other than America's Got Talent (and OK, Dateline) NBC doesn't have much to hang its hat on.
I'm not going to chime in on CBS' numbers until I see the finals. Big Brother seemed solid and Flashpoint was down in total viewers vs. last week, but up 23% in the 18-49 demo, but, but, but...CBS' numbers are likely skewed more than a tiny bit by local affiliates preempting regular programming for preseason football.
