Seriously, CW just threw away their highest rated show. Really stupid mistake. I think SD! is going to MyNetwork TV, if I'm not mistaken. Which means they'll be on the same channel as they were when they were on UPN, so really, what was the whole point of ever switching channels?

I'm a fan of swingtown and boy, if an original episode of *anything* can't beat the [[YAWN]] parade of nations, it really is doomed.

CBS should just exile Swingtown to Saturday nights and let that creepy show die a slow agonizing death. Its like an extended version of that All in the Family episode where Edith becomes pen pals with a Swinger couple and they stop by for a visit. Ick - that was easily the most disturbing episode of that classic series - except maybe for the episode where Edith's transvestite friend gets killed by a guy with a metal pipe on Christmas Eve. I guess the next CBS series will be about transvestites or transexuals or She-males? Prob-ly.

George,
Are you completely nuts??? How has NBC show ANY disrespect?
Now, I do agree that NO network "Deseves" its rating. They need to EARN them, and NBC did more than that with its opening ceremony presentation.

@Sandy, wow, I didn't realize they were new episodes. That is a mystery. SciFi (also in the NBC Uni world) aired a movie instead of regular programming. Next Friday it's regular programming w/new episodes and so are Monk and Psych, but the ratings for whatever is on NBC this Friday night won't likely be anywhere near as high as they were for the opening ceremonies.

Speaking of shows airing against the ceremonies last night, I was shocked that USA aired new episodes of Monk and Psych, considering that they're a part of the NBC Universl family.

Em, first -- it's always OK! And thank you. We were on the same wave length though, I entered it about 30 minutes ago (see update 2 above), but much appreciated!

The numbers did stink, even worse than ABC for the hour. While I already felt Swingtown doomed, CBS airing an original episode up against the opening ceremonies removes any doubt. Not that there was any doubt!

Hi Robert, I'm not sure if its ok to relay a post here or not but Mediaweek is reporting Swingtown as 3.66 million viewers 18-49 demo 1.1/3 at 10:00 and 3.26 million 18-49 demo 1.1/3 at 10:30. Pretty sad numbers. CBS is behind an ABC movie rerun.

I'm glad the Olympics did well b/c it proves something can actually pull in big numbers on a Friday night. The Olympics will always be a beast no matter what technology comes along. Watching it on the internet sucks and its beautiful in HD.

This just shows you that networks need to start programming seriously on Friday nights as the audience is there.

Let me say something about Smackdown! it will be MyNetworkTV's gain and The CW's loss. Smackdown held up most of its audience last week against a stiff event like the Olympics placing it in third place. 4 million viewers on a Friday night against The Olympics on The CW at that is amazing.

How outrageous and impossible would it be if a network disrespected its top show? Oh wait, it happened with the CW and Smackdown!

I'm not sure we watched the same event, George. Here's what I saw: wow, the Chinese pulled off a very, very, very impressive opening ceremony that was huge in scale. I thought it was spectacular to watch, and sure, sometimes I wished the announcers would've quieted down more, I didn't think it took a way at all from the impressive extravaganza put on by the host country. I do not see how that was disrespectful to the olympics or the athletes at all.

Sad to see these numbers. NBC shows no respect to the Olumpics and the athletes and it doesn't deserve those numbers.
