Most people on the Interwebs don't want to read 1000 word rambles, so let me save you 58 seconds of your life with a summary: NBC, WTF!?  If there's a record-breaking eighth medal event, how can you not show it live!"

Defamer is running a fun casting call for who will be cast as Michael Phelps in the movie.

My money is on Screech.

Michael Phelps and Screech, Separated at Birth?

I know that his record one is Saturday Night…but he has to get the win tonight to have a chance to break the record Saturday

  2. Rob, I don't know if it's stupidity or hubris and the hubris quotient which was likely already large probably has ratcheted up significantly based on results. Should it still be in play, I really hope NBC changes its mind and broadcasts what would probably amount to 20 minutes of total coverage (5 minutes of hype, a couple of minutes of race, and post-race coverage) live.

Joe — gotcha. And yep, it's off the table if he doesn't win tonight, but you'll already know the results going into Monk/Psych, ironically my HD feed of USA is the east coast feed, so I can watch that on east coast time, I'd pay $$/mo to get the east coast feeds of the broadcast nets, but because of the affiliate network of stations I doubt anything like that will be available for years.

I do like the cable coverage…this morning while getting ready to work I had the US-China Womens Volleyball game on…

I also heard the NBC's coverage went well past midnight last night. Is that true. If it is that would take up most of the West Coast Prime time to…

As I said in the post…Major Sports has had the East trained to stay up past midnight if they want to watch it for sometime…and had the West trained for a dinner time start…why they changed it for the Olympics is perplexing…especially since one of their Cable Stations had a Live Softball Game on last night when the NBC Coverage was still going on the same time…

ESPN has a poll on its website that asked if you will be watching Michael Phelps Friday Night….At the moment 82% says yes..including 82% that have voted in California. I wonder if most of California knows its via a three hour taped delay. Knowing California…well nevermind..

Last night I heard about Phelps winning just before 8 pm our time….didn't bother watching it at about 11 pm our time when NBC decided to let us see it….and won't tonight or tommorow night either…at least not planning my night aroun it…Besides tonight Monk and Psyche is on and tommorow night the Packers-Niners or on..live…

  5. Joe, I can't lie, I had the same experience as you (knew the result, didn't watch it via tape delay). I have lived in California for 10 years, but after 30+ on the east coast perhaps I haven't lost my east-coast “sensibilities” yet. ;-)

BTW, if there is a Phelps record 8th gold medal, the race would be 7:58pm-ish PDT on *Saturday* night, not Friday so wouldn't be competing w/Monk and Psych on USA network…

  6. Don't they realize if they show it live, everyone will be camped in front of the TV waiting? Honestly, just because it is 5 minutes outside the prime time window they are going to tape delay? Can they seriously be that stupid?
