I’m not 100% sure, but I think the equal time law only applies to broadcast television/radio. And BET and TV One’s target audiences are African Americans, who are overwhelmingly Democrat. So it has more to do with ratings than ethics.

And how could you have passed up a purging pun about ANTM?

Sooo…if the other 3 networks that didn’t cover the Republican party actually covered it…they may have beaten Obama’s nite…I find that interesting…mmmm…isn’t there some TV/Radio ethics or rule or law that both parties get equal time on air? …if one party is on the network – that network has to give equal time to the OTHER party…? I was in radio so we gave both sides no on-air time, so we wouldn’t have to promote the party we didn’t agree with … but if we put one side on – we had to put the other view on too…

Frank, we don’t have our cable numbers yet, but TVWeek puts the total audience at just below Obama’s peak. Interestingly, the DNC was also covered by Univision, but TVWeek, like everybody else in the English media, forgets to mention that.

An estimated 37 million people watched Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for U.S. vice president, during her star-making debut at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night, according to preliminary local data from Nielsen Media Research.

Gov. Palin’s audience eclipsed the 26 million who watched Sen. Hillary Clinton’s speech on the second night of the Democratic convention last week and the 24 million who watched speech the delivered on night three by Gov. Palin’s Democratic counterpart, Sen. Joe Biden.

Gov. Palin’s numbers are comprised of viewers on NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox News Channel, CNN and MSNBC. The Democratic convention was covered by two additional networks that aren’t airing the Republican convention: TV One and BET.

Gov. Palin’s audience was just a million viewers shy of Sen. Barack Obama’s convention record audience of 38 million on the Democrats’ closing night.

The audience for last night’s affair in St. Paul, Minn. also dwarf’s the total for the comparable hour of programming four years ago at the Republican convention.

BONEs had a nice season premiere, both creatively and in the ratings.
Bones should stay in that 9.5 million range later in the month and once the other nets premiere their shows. FOX should win Wednesday Nights at 8pm with no problem.

Great numbers for Bones. I doubt it will be able to maintain those ratings when it’s up against regular competition, but it’s a good sign to start off so well.

Thanks, Bill. I was able to find a few numbers right off Drudge, for Fox News and MSNBC, but for some reason I don’t think he’s using Live+SD. His major network numbers seem lower compared to yours.

Frank, we will get it, but our cable news data this week has been a bit delayed. I *just* posted the Sept. 2 results. I’d hope to get the Sept. 3 results later today, but I can’t guarantee that timing.

Bill, I’m curious, is there a breakdown coming out showing the 10pm hour ratings for Fox News channel, CNN, etc., in addition to the major networks? I’m wondering about the full viewership count for all the networks that covered the DNC and RNC VP speeches.
