For the week of the 2008 Republican National Convention, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the number one network evening newscast topping the competition in all key categories. "Nightly" averaged 8.231 million total viewers from September 1-5, which includes coverage of the RNC with Brian Williams reporting live from St. Paul, Minnesota. For the week, "NBC Nightly News" led ABC by +534,000 and CBS by +2.703 million total viewers.
Versus the same week last season, "Nightly" was up in total viewers (+6% or +450,000), homes (+4%) and rating W/M/A25-54 (+10%/+12%/+11%). Season-to-date, "Nightly" leads World News by +365,000 total viewers.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, "NBC Nightly News" delivered a 2.1 rating, topping ABC's 1.9 and CBS' 1.5 rating. Among A25-54 (000), "Nightly" topped ABC by +223,000 viewers. Season-to-date, "Nightly" leads World News by +80,000 A25-54 viewers.
In homes, the Williams-anchored broadcast was also No. 1 during the week, posting a 5.6 rating and a 12 share. Second place ABC posted a 5.4/11, and third place CBS had a 3.7/8.
Please note: "Nightly" and "Evening News" were labeled as specials on Monday due to Labor Day and will not be included in the weekly or season averages. In addition, "Nightly" was labeled as a breakout on Thursday due to pre-emptions for NFL Football coverage and is not included in the weekly or season averages.
On its digital platforms, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" continued its strong performance with more than 4 million online streams for the week ending September 6, 2008.
