"NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" Online Experiencing Tremendous Growth Its Relaunch in January

NEW YORK - September 23, 2008 - "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the number one network evening newscast for the 2007-08 season. In total viewers, "Nightly News" beat ABC by 340K (4 percent), and CBS by 2,365,000 (38 percent). This marks "Nightly's" twelfth consecutive season win in total viewers. "Nightly" delivered 8.5 million viewers, +122,000 more than during the 2006-07 season, and was the only newscast to show year-to-year growth.

"Nightly" increased its total viewer advantage over ABC to +340,000 viewers versus +41,000 during the 2006-07 season. "Nightly" led CBS Evening News by +2,365,000 million total viewers, the best advantage since the 2004-05 season (+2,524,000).

In homes, "Nightly" topped ABC by +2% and CBS by +38%. This is the 12th consecutive season win for "Nightly" in homes (includes 1 tie).

In rating A25-54, "Nightly" topped ABC by +5% (+1 tenth) and CBS by +40% (+6 tenths). "Nightly" had its 12th consecutive season win in rating A25-54 (includes 1 tie).

"Nightly" also had its 12th consecutive season win in rating M25-54 and rating A18-49. "Nightly" had its best advantage over CBS in rating M25-54 (+7 tenths) since the 2002-03 season (+9 tenths). In A25-54 (000), "Nightly" beat ABC by +78,000 viewers and CBS by +681,000, and had its best A25-54 (000) advantage over CBS since the 2004-05 season (+838,000). "Nightly" grew by +9,000 A25-54 (000) viewers versus the 2006-07 season, while World News fell by -99,000 and CBS declined by -225,000.

"NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" online, available at www.nightly.msnbc.com, has experienced tremendous growth since the enhanced website with new video features was introduced in January. According to Nielsen Video Census,* "Nightly News" online topped more than 12 million online streams for the month of August. The revamped "NBC Nightly News" website has seen a 50 percent increase in video streams from January through June 2008 versus the site's average for the same six-month period last year.

The new site has enabled consumers to easily watch and discover news stories and find a wealth of materials that compliment reports seen on the broadcast edition of "Nightly." Consumers visit nightly.msnbc.com for extended interviews, additional story angles, and web-exclusives.
