Rose, although House was a top 20 show last season for average viewers, its huge value comes from the fact that it was the #4 show for adults 18-49. Among that age demo, the only shows that were more popular last season were American Idol and Desperate Housewives.

I do get sick of the X-Files comparisons. They are very repetitive. Probably a bit valid, but shouldn’t a show for the old fans to watch be good? I really don’t know why people find it so fun to go and bash a show instead of just NOT WATCHING IT. It’s what I do with Gossip Girl.

On the subject of ratings, I’m still surprised about House’s ratings. I thought it was a more popular show than that. Online watchers, maybe?

Glad to see The Mentalist is hanging in there ok. Not bad really since I thought for sure it would get the chop. I enjoy it anyway. I absolutly dispise Fringe more and more. The comparisions to The X Files are getting old by now but are still valid I think. Only difference is The X Files was a good show where Fringe…not so much…

Outlander,

I think the the 35-50 demo of House is switching over to The Mentalist, while the 18-34 group is staying with Fringe. That’s my guess. I don’t think the two FOX shows are demo compatible.

Anyway, I’m a House/Mentalist girl myself (I fall in the 35-50 demo).

I tried to watch Fringe, but find Mentalist to top it in quality.

At least Fringe isn’t bleeding–not yet, anyway.

Mentalist–wow! Breakout hit of the season?

Outlander, just drop the X Files ripoff talk please. Its so tiring that people constantly keep coming up with it, man, X Files has been off air for years, maybe you should be glad that there’s a show in the same genre finally.

besides Fringe’s ratings are amazing, currently Fox’s second best, especially the 18-49 demo is impressive… 25% dropoff isnt that bad.

I’m surprised that Fringe still is losing 25% of the House lead-in, especially with Fox’s “limited commercial interruptions” and heavy promotion for Fringe. It’s got to be quality problems. I know when I watch the show, I just see it as being a bad knockoff of the X-Files and very gory. Last night’s episode further confirms that, as evidenced by:

The true believer vs. skeptic dynamic growing between Walter Bishop and Peter Bishop (i.e. Mulder and Scully);

The mysterious man who seems to know everything (the bald “Observer” vs. the X-Files’ cigarette-smoking man);

Shadowy government conspiracies

….and the like.
