We are not a Nielsen household, nor are any of the households of our friends or family across the country. I wish our household and those of our friends were, because we have watched every episode of Pushing Daisies and love it. We’d like to write the show’s sponsors and encourage them to keep putting their advertising dollars toward this refreshing, original and excellent show.

Criminal Minds gets such huge ratings with no lead in and no promo. 17 million for the premier is impressive. Almost in DH & GA territory. I think next week PP will drop and CM will go up again. CSI NY gets the benefit of an amazing lead in from CM and not much competition. I wonder how it would do without it??? CM has actually become a great show which I am now hooked on. I now understand its growing popularity. What will replace America’s Got Talent?

Although i don’t like PD i know how it feels to have a show that pulls in bad numbers ie TSCC, PB & CHUCK.

When a new show starts in the fall i usually wait until midseason to see if i think it will be renewed, if it looks like it will i watch.

Pushing Daisies is a good show but it’s one of those shows that you either “GET IT” or you don’t I happen to enjoy it but I can see why some people would be turned off I mean it is different to me it looks like a show made by Tim Burton it really has his flavor to it and I know lots of people do not like his movies while others do but yeah I hope it doesn’t get canceled but if it does I guess i can somewhat understand why as most people just don’t get it BUT I have to ask these people with nielsen boxes…..What are you thinking? How can that awful writing on Knight Rider draw a better rating than Pushing Daisies I mean come on is it those cute lil graphics on the screen when KITT transforms??

I also agree with most on here that FOX should move TSCC to wednesday following Bones I think it will actually draw better numbers in that time slot

Pushing Daisies is awful, it’s something you would expect from Disney Channel. I mean it seems more aimed at kids so why not put it on ABC family or a kids channel.

Pushing Daisies if a vapid repetitive piece of fluff. It’s all pretty colors and no substance. Fine, but not for the 1 hour format. Try listening to an episode without watching, it’s pretty atrocious. Good to see that the people called the king has no clothes. To bad it’s hurting the rest of the night.

Dirty Sexy Money was amazing ABC needs to give that show a chance in a different timeslot. Private Practice is a terrible lead in.

According to Zap2it-

CBS averaged a 7.9 rating/13 share for the night, easily beating second-place NBC’s 5.4/9. ABC took third with a 4.8/8. FOX, 4.4/7, came in fourth, and The CW drew a 2.0/3.

The adults 18-49 title also went to CBS, which drew a 3.3 rating in the key advertising demographic. ABC managed to grab second with a 2.6, followed closely by NBC, 2.5, and FOX, 2.4. The CW came in at 1.4.

FOX’s “Bones” led the 8 p.m. hour with a 6.1/10. CBS’ “New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” finished second in households, but NBC’s “Knight Rider” (4.6/7), which grew a tiny bit from its premiere, had more total viewers. The premiere of “Pushing Daisies” scored only a 4.1/7, well below its average from last season. “America’s Next Top Model” earned a 2.7/4 for The CW.

CBS took the lead at 9 p.m. with “Criminal Minds,” 9.3/14. The finale of “America’s Got Talent” delivered a 7.7/12 for NBC. ABC moved up to third with “Private Practice,” 5.5/8. A pair of “‘Til Death” episodes averaged 2.7/4 for FOX, keeping it ahead of The CW’s “90210″ encore.

Pushing Daisies wasnt promoted all that much – I forgot it was on and caugh it 15 minutes in while channel surfing and doing some home improvement projects around the house. I suspect it will likely get the axe by mid season. Too bad, its a truly different show like nothing else on the air. Then again that probably part of the problem – its too different. Having it off the air so long with no re-runs didnt help either. These days most viewers want clones of talent shows, crime shows or reality shows – just look at the weekly top 20.

Hopefully FRINGE will hold the 9-10 million viewer mark that one is one of the few show, other than LOST, that I really look forward to.

I don’t know if Bill updated this chart w/2007 data, but the “red” line in it represents the average viewers for the LDS round. it combines *all* games/series for the LDS round, and is not an average of the individual games or series — there are four series in that round

I really enjoyed DSM, and hopefully viewership will grow. The bright side?

DSM outperformed PD and Lipstick Jungle, and managed to hold the majority of PP lead in.

Oh crap. If Pushing Daisies gets canceled, it’s going to be the WORST quality TV getting canceled since Firefly. And I will cry a lot. Damn, I thought my favorite shows were all safe. I really cannot understand an American public who would watch more DWTS than Pushing Daisies, the most original, imaginative, beautiful and smart show on TV.

Julia, I think the impact last night would have been minimal even with some good teams in the mix because other than the Red Sox/Angels, none of the games ran fully in primetime. The LDS don’t traditionally score a ton of viewers (nowhere near Monday Night Football levels). we won’t see the playoff numbers for TBS until someone else publishes them,

I saw a ton of promos for ABC’s Wednesday night line-up – on TV, magazines, subways, online, etc… They also did a starter kit recap thing for all their shows which were awesome!

Julia, thank you for the explanation. In the UK they tend to just say how many millions watched, it’s probably only in the last few years that they’ve started to talk about viewing share as well.

Pushing Daisies got such a glowing review from Variety for its premiere episode, but viewers just aren’t interested. A spin off of a successful show goes out on a Wednesday night on ABC and does badly? That was Joanie Loves Chachi. And now 25 years later we have history repeating itself with Private Practice. So it is official, ABC have come full circle! Should we run a book on how long Kate Walsh goes back permanently to Grey’s Anatomy and this show gets axed?

Is there anything ABC can do about Wednesdays?

Cameron, share represents (in this case) the percentage of televisions that were actually turned on that were tuned into a specific program. The household rating is the percentage of homes whether the TV’s were on or not, share is a percentage of only the TVs that were on.

And if i had paid more attention I would’ve noticed Julia already answered this!

I thought those Wednesday ABC shows could be vulnerable to disappointment. Dirty Sexy Money just barely escaped cancellation, resting just at the magic 92% relative 18-49 rating mark last season.

ABC has done quite a poor job promoting their Wednesday line-up. Seriously, I don’t remember watching much, if any, promos for Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, or Pushing Daisies. I did see a ton of Lipstick Jungle promos though, but that show simply sucks.

Dirty Sexy Money was great.

Cameron, shares are the percentage of households actually watching TV at the time who are watching that program. Ratings are the percentage of all households with a TV in them who are watching that program. Each percentage point is equal to about 1.14 million households, but usually the number of total viewers is higher, due to more than one person watching in each household.
