CBS Wins Third Week of 2008-9 Television Season

CBS Has Largest Audience, Most 18-49 and 25-54 Adults; NBC Has Most 18-34 Adults

For the second week in a row, CBS had the largest average audience, the most adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 in all three cases trailed in second place by ABC. NBC edged a tightly packed Fox, ABC and CBS for the most adults 18-34 for the week. If CBS keeps winning those adult demo categories particularly 18-49s, Les Moonves won't have to be apologizing for the age of his audiences too much longer. The most notable change from last week was the swapping of Fox's and NBC's positions in every category. In average viewers, adults 18-49, and adults 25-54, Fox moved ahead of NBC into third place. In adults 18-34 it was NBC moving ahead of Fox into first place.

CBS's average viewership of 10.96 million beat ABC by 1.3+ million viewers. Fox with 7.96 million and NBC with 7.00 million were well behind. For demo adults 18-49 it was CBS over ABC by 4.23 million to 3.89 million with Fox (3.59 million) and NBC (3.54) neck and neck for third. For adults 25-54 it was CBS over ABC by 5.02 million to 4.42 million viewers, with Fox in third (3.84 million) and NBC (3.68 million) fourth. In adults 18-34, NBC edged Fox by just 30,000 average adults, winning with 1.64 million to 1.61 million, ABC and CBS finished a close third and fourth with 1.54 million and 1.44 million respectively.

Univision was fifth across the board, and the CW was sixth across the board, typical of last season.
