I don’t think I needed a graph to tell me that.

Survivor was a novelty, and the newness has worn off. It is not interesting to watch a bunch of idiots standing on posts over water, waiting for one of them to finally lose their balance. Donald Trump’s show is more interesting, because the contestants actually do something interesting that shows intelligence and talent.

The other thing about Survivor is that the winner is not the one who deserves it. The winner is the one who is the most underhanded plotter, who undermines the decent people. In shows like American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, and America’s Got Talent, it is clear that the winner got ahead based on merit and ability instead of acting like a nasty noser.
Of course, Survivor is more like reality, more like the way things are in the corporate workplace. But people want to see shows that represent the world the way that they wish it were. If I want to see nasty people undermining each other, I will go to the office and witness it first hand.

Well as a longtime fan of Survivor I don’t entirely agree with your post. Particularly about the person who “most deserves” to win. In Survivor the winner is the person who gets the most votes, sort of like the upcoming election. Sometimes you have to hold your nose and vote for someone, again almost like the upcomng election. That’s part of the game. Now about Dancing with the Stars and American Idol and the various “call-in” competitions. Come on, do you really think the most deserving wins? It’s a big popularity contest. And Trump is the wrong one to point to as a good example of reality competiton. Better Top Chef or Project Runway where they actually do stuff that isn’t just product placements.
Survivor is showing it’s age, no doubt about it. Even I have lost interest. But at least I don’t have to listen to inane hosts of DWTS repeat endlessly.
