While the top English language networks are down in every measure through 5 weeks of the 2008-9 broadcast prime-time season, CBS continues its trend of improvement vs. last season. It narrowed the difference between this season and last season in every category since last week. CBS is only behind its 2007-8 demo adults 18-49 average by 3.5%. Combine that with the losses for the competition and CBS is competitive in the 18-49 demo.
CBS's English language competition, however, is still seeing in almost every audience measure vs. the 2007-8 season continue to decline. The 2008on Fox is proving an anchor vs. last season and not a bonus with record low ratings being set and weather vexing the broadcasts. ABC, NBC and Fox have all had declines of 14-16% in the all important adults 18-49 demo. The CW is in somewhat better shape, losing only 11.4% of its adults 18-49 audience and more importantly (for the CW) only 4.5% of its adults 18-34 audience.
The Spanish language broadcaster Univision continues to post increases of 5-16% across the board in all audience demographics for the season.
