BURBANK, Calif. – October 30, 2008 – NBC's late-night lineup has won the week of October 20-24 in adults 18-49 and other key categories, with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" encores winning the 11:35 p.m. ET hour by a 13 percent margin over rebroadcasts of CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" in 18-49 viewers and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" encores beating CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" originals at 12:35 a.m. by 21 percent.
Both "Tonight" and "Late Night" stretched their leads among younger adults, with Jay topping Letterman for the week by a 32 percent advantage among adults 18-34 and the Conan rebroadcasts achieving a 45 percent margin over the Ferguson originals.
Season to date, Jay is delivering a 12 percent margin of victory over Letterman in adult 18-49 viewers and a 19 percent advantage in total viewers, while Conan's leads over Ferguson are 21 percent in 18-49 and 0.5 percent in total viewers. Both Jay and Conan once again pull away among younger adults, with Jay leading the season by a 30 percent margin among adult 18-34 viewers and Conan winning by 52 percent.
For the week of October 20-24, Jay's average 1.564 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.390 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Jay's audience of 4.142 million persons beat Letterman's 3.757 million; and in adults 18-34, Jay's 608,000 out-delivered Letterman's 459,000. At 12:35 a.m. ET, Conan's 927,000 adults 18-49 for the week out-delivered Ferguson's 769,000; in total viewers, Conan's 1.709 million trailed Ferguson's 1.873 million; and in adults 18-34, Conan's 430,000 topped Ferguson's 296,000.
While "Late Night" encores trailed first-run "Late Late Show" telecasts last week in total viewers, Conan generated bigger audiences than Ferguson in all key demographics, including adults, men and women 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54.
At 1:35 a.m. ET for the week, encore telecasts of "Last Call with Carson Daly" pulled within a tenth of a rating point of first-run Ferguson and ABC's mostly original "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in adults 18-49 and tied them both in adult 18-34 rating (with a 0.4 each). Kimmel was an encore on Monday.
