Update: The Live+7 data for the week of Oct 27-Nov 2 is still not available, and based on past experience, will not be until tomorrow. I will publish the new DVR viewing post when I finally get the data.

For the week of October 20-26, ABC's Grey's Anatomy again had the largest audience via DVR viewing with 3.941 million viewers via DVRs. Fox's House was second with a DVR viewing audience of 3.494 million. Rounding out the top ten for the largest DVR audiences were CSI, Office, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Fringe, NCIS, Survivor:Gabon, and Criminal Minds.

NBC's Office was the top show for percentage increase over its Live audience, increasing 42.5% in Live+7 viewing. Rounding out the top 10 for largest % increase via DVR viewing were Privileged, Heroes, Lipstick Jungle, Fringe, Gossip Girl, House, Grey's Anatomy, Smallville and Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Although we have found no evidence that DVR viewing past the airdate is meaningful to the show's advertising revenue and likely its ultimate success, we like seeing the trends regardless.

Definitions:

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Nice to see Private Practice/Dirty Sexy Money

  2. Matt

Hopefully those numbers will help in ABC’s evaluation of Dirty Sexy Money. Last week was so good. It just goes to show how good the show can be when it’s on point and it doesn’t waste a 1/2 hour on fivolous chatter like Eli Stone, which is just like Brothers & Sisters. Someone in charge of those three shows must have got the memo to get it in gear because all three were much more entertaining than they have been in previous weeks.

  3. Zach

So that’s where all The Office’s viewers are! lol

  4. Terence

proof positive that HEROES isn’t the sinkking ship everyone thinks it is NBC must be paying attention Now if we could get some ratings love to shows like ELI STONE, PRIVATE PRACTICE etc. We’d be ALL GOOD

  5. Terrence — poppycock! Proof positive Heroes *is* shrinking, unless you think 10.2 million is bigger than 12.8 million, in which case, nevermind:

  6. Terence, Heroes is without a doubt a sinking ship, the only discussion now is whether it is headed to the bottom or whether it can stay afloat at its current level.
