James Hibberd reports that NBC has cancelled the returning Lipstick Jungle and the newcomer, My Own Worst Enemy.
Mere days ago I talked trash about NBC for promoting My Own Worst Enemy as "Christian Slater in the role everyone is talking about" and dubbing it the "new hit show". Then I ragged on NBC again the next morning when the woeful numbers for Enemy came out.
Lipstick Jungle is no surprise at all. Effectively in that case, moving it to Fridays was the same as saying, "when your shows are through, so are you", but My Own Worst Enemy surprises me a bit. NBC was obviously very enamored with the show and promoted it fairly heavily.
While MOWE doesn't look so awful in our Renew/Cancel Index, it's one of those deals where a combination of events was in play. One, NBC has pretty woeful numbers, and MOWE did better in its early airings and has steadily dropped. The same could be said for its lead in, Heroes, but Heroes still at least pulls numbers in the demographics.
No word yet on whether the shows will be yanked from the schedule or merely play out the existing episodes.
