Reaper Returns to CW in March following 90210, No Word On Privileged

James Hibberd at thrfeed.com reports that Reaper will rejoin the CW lineup on Tuesday, March 17 at 9pm after 90210. That 9pm slot is currently occupied by the freshman scripted show Privileged which has been a below average performer for the CW this fall. And the CW 18-49 average has been pushed low by the disasters on Friday and Sunday nights so far this season.

It's not clear if that announcement sounds the deathknell for Privileged or not, but the fact that there has been no announcement on the future of the show alone is a negative indicator.

ausiello wrote that privliged will have finished airing its 18 episodes before reaper premieres . though i don’t see how reaper and 90210 will work together

  2. Seems like a very poor match up.

That is still a pretty late start date for REAPER which was prepared to come back in January. It appears to be set to run through early summer into June?

These late starts with ABC & CW are interesting to me.

Julia, it was the time it aired last season wasn’t it? Tuesdays at 9/8 central?

  5. I agree it’s an unusual start date. And not an idea lead in show, but where else would you put it Julia?

  6. Rob, yes Hibberd wrote the same thing, but by ending Privileged at 18 episodes and not extending it to the end of the season begs the question of what will happen to it *next* season.

  7. Nick, it’s the same timeslot, but a different lead in. I suppose 90210 may be better than Beauty and the Greek, but it just seems like a very bad idea. Personally, I would have moved 90210 post Top Model and found a better match for Reaper.

They really had no choice … Monday and Thursday are set in stone because of the success. Friday is where shows go to die. Personally I would have paired it with 13: The Fear is Real on Wednesdays until the next ANTM and then let just run out it’s season there but they really do not hae alot to work with. It’s either Tueday or Wedsnesday and I am figuring that they are just hoping a familiar timeslot will payoff. It’s the only way this makes sense.

I find it interesting that the CW didn’t order the final 4 episodes from PRIVILEGED. This is so far in advance if the GG thing works and more start watching after 90210 we could see REAPER moved to another night. Unless they’re already convinced the GG lead in was a failure.

If OTH is in its last season (rumored) then PRIVILEGED would be moved to Monday night. Still REAPER is being treated rather poorly. They originally said January and now it’s the middle of March! They can’t really expect good ratings in late May/early June can they?

Then again maybe they thought running against IDOL powered FOX wasn’t smart.

Is it still gonna be a “March Sweeps” in 2009?

If you think about the CW lineup, Reaper is out of place no matter what. It might’ve worked with some of their quirky comedies of recent times like Aliens or Chris, but otherwise it’s a sore thumb no matter what. I’m surprised (but ultimately glad) they kept the show at all considering CW’s preference in the demos.

I think that America’s Next Top Model should be moved to Tuesdays at 9 and Reaper on Wednesday at 9 after 13: Fear is Real. It is a much better lead in. And i would find it better that privileged is put back after ANTM ends in April for Privileged’s last 5 eps.
