Only Spanish-Language Network to Grow in November among Key Demos
Network Pacing to Deliver Strongest Fourth Quarter Performance
MIAMI – December 3, 2008 – Telemundo, a leading producer of high-quality content for Hispanics in the U.S. and audiences around the world, announced today its NTI results for the month of November. November 2008 ranks as the network's best November performance over a 16-year period among total viewers (persons 2+) in Monday through Friday prime. This month also ranks as the network's second best performance in 16-years in Monday through Friday prime among key demographic groups- Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Women 18-34, Men 18-34 and Households.
According to Nielsen Media Research data, during Monday through Friday prime, Telemundo averaged 1.2 million total viewers (persons 2+), an increase of 27% over the prior year and outpacing Univision's +10% increase and Telefutura's -12% decline vs. November 2007.
Among Adults 18-49, Telemundo, increased +26% in delivery (659,000) compared to November 2007 (524,000). Telemundo was the only Spanish-language broadcaster with growth. Univision decreased -2% and Telefutura was down -22%.
Additionally, Telemundo averaged 389,000 in the younger Adults 18-34, increasing +44% over the same period in 2007 (270,000) and was the only Spanish-language broadcaster in this demo to achieve growth. Univision was down -1% and Telefutura declined by -26% vs. last November.
In the 10pm hour, Telemundo posted triple-digit percent increases over November 2007 across all key demographics. Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso, which averaged 1.9 million total viewers (2+) and over 1.1 million Adults 18-49 in November 2008, is Telemundo's highest-rated novela in network history.
In Monday through Sunday Prime, Telemundo averaged 613,000 Adults 18-49, increasing +15% compared to November 2007 and was the only Spanish-language broadcaster with growth in the demo. In total Prime, Telemundo has delivered double-digit percent increases over last year in Adults 18-34 and total viewers (persons 2+), growing at a faster pace than its competitors.
FOURTH QUARTER 2008
Through the first nine weeks of the fourth quarter (4Q), Telemundo is pacing to deliver its strongest 4Q performance since 1993 among total viewers (persons 2+) and second best performance among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Households. Telemundo is averaging 645,000 Adults 18-49 in 4Q 2008, increasing +19% over 4Q's 2007 (542,000). Telemundo is averaging 373,000 Adults 18-34, increasing +33% over 4Q 2007 (280,000).
Ten weeks into the 2008-09 season, Telemundo is the fastest growing Spanish-Language network this season in Adults 18-49 (638,000) +17%, Adults 18-34 (369,000) +33% and total viewers (persons 2+) (over 1.1 million) +19%, in Monday through Friday prime.
Looking at Telemundo in general market (1), the network has grown +19% this season among Adults 18-49, while all of the major English-language broadcast nets are down and outpacing the Spanish-language Networks--Univision +1% ;Telefutura -10%.
