NBC PROGRAM TOPS ABC AND CBS IN TOTAL VIEWERS, HOMES AND IN KEY DEMOGRAPHIC ADULTS 25-54
IN RATING A25-54, NIGHTLY OUTPERFORMED ABC WORLD NEWS BY 105K AND CBS EVENING NEWS BY 972K VIEWERS
According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" won the November 2008 sweep in total viewers, homes and in the key demographic adults 25-54. For the sweep, "Nightly News" averaged 9.184 million total viewers, a 4% advantage (+347,000) over ABC "World News with Charles Gibson's" 8.837 million, and a tremendous 43% lead (+2,760,000) over CBS "Evening News with Katie Couric's" 6.424 million. NBC has now placed first for 36 of the last 40 sweep periods, and nine of the last ten consecutive November sweeps.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" also outperformed the competition during the November 2008 sweep. The Williams-led newscast led ABC by 105K and CBS by 972K. "Nightly" grew by +119K A25-54 viewers versus Nov'07, compared to a +40,000 gain for ABC and a –145,000 decline for CBS Evening News.
In homes, "Nightly" topped World News by +2% and CBS Evening News by +40%. "Nightly" increased its advantage over both ABC and CBS in homes versus the Nov'07 sweep.
