"THE EARLY SHOW" IS ALSO THE ONLY NETWORK MORNING NEWS BROADCAST TO POST GAINS OR MAINTAIN AUDIENCE IN ALL KEY MEASUREMENTS FOR THE NOV. SWEEPS PERIOD
NBC AND ABC SUFFER LOSSES IN MOST CATEGORIES FOR THE NOV. SWEEPS
CBS News' THE EARLY SHOW cut the gap with ABC's "GMA" by 630,000 viewers during the 2008 Nov. sweeps period. The CBS broadcast is also the only network morning news program to post gains or maintain its audience during the Nov. sweeps period in households, total viewers and all key demographics, compared to the same period last year. In addition to its own gains, THE EARLY SHOW cut the gap with both NBC and ABC in all four of the key news demographics: adults 24-54, women 25-54, adults 18-49 and women 18-49.
Among viewers, THE EARLY SHOW increased its audience by +230,000 (3.03 million from 2.80 million), while NBC's "Today" lost -50,000 (5.62 million from 5.67 million) and ABC's "GMA" lost -400,000 (4.66 million from 5.06 million).
In household ratings, the CBS broadcast was the only network morning newscast to maintain its delivery (2.2/8) during the sweeps period. NBC decreased -5% (4.2/14 from 4.4/15) and ABC lost -10% (3.5/12 from 3.9/14).
Among women 25-54, THE EARLY SHOW increased +8% (1.3/7 from 1.2/8), while NBC decreased -4% (2.7/16 from 2.8/17) and ABC lost -8% (2.2/13 from 2.4/14) for the same period.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, the CBS broadcast posted a +14% increase (0.8/6 from 0.7/6), while "Today" decreased -6% (1.6/12 from 1.7/13) and "GMA" lost -8% (1.2/9 from 1.3/10) during the Nov. sweeps.
