Like Sand Through The Hourglass, These Are The Days Of Our Lives.

Thats my earliest memory as a kid as my mother had that show on the air before I started school. I actually looked forward to school because of that. Do soap operas ever DIE? It seems like the same ones have been on for something like 50 FREAKING YEARS!!!

Bill, thanks for posting the info! I have a question. Which key demo ratings are the most important for the soap operas? Women 18-49 or Women 18-34? Or Male demos? Like how do you judge which soaps are doing good. I know that Y&R is obviously doing good as it always does. But what kind of demos do soap operas need to receive in order to be doing good? And are the key demos more important than the number of over all total viewers for soaps? Like do the advertisers care more about the demos or the total viewers?

    Thanks!

  3. Julia, my understanding is that the soap operas target women 18-49, although my knowledge is so thin on soap operas in particular that they could very well be interested in the other female demos that appear in this report as well. I’ll ask an expert and see if I can get a better answer.

according to the news ive been hearing nbc is being really tough on its only remaining daytime drama-days of our lives. it appears to be on the upswing according to the nielsen data…and its drawing in good numbers in the 18-49 group. really that is the only age group of viewers that matters in tv biz. so why is nbc trying to cancel it? from the nielsen ratings that ive seen, days of our lives is the only thing nbc daytime has going for it. they are stupid if they cancel it.

  5. Julia

Thanks so much, Bill! I appreciate all the help.
